Flat Cap Johnsson Trade and looking for feedback on a potential Andersen move

Créé par: jmac490
Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 14 mai 2020

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Players Available: Engvall, Kerfoot, Holl, Goat
Potentially Available: Freddy, Mikheyev, Dermott
Players worth keeping: Hyman/Kappy (for their drive), Matthews/Tavares/Nylander/Marner (teams star power), Rielly/Muzz/Spezza (part of the leadership core), Sandin/Liljegren/Robertson/SDA (they are part of the teams future)

Potential trade destinations for Freddy:
Ottawa -> Good relationship with the Leafs, they have a ton of cap space (39M for 13 players - probably closer to 20M since Melnyk is cheap), They could use Freddy as a mentor for Gustavsson/Hogberg/Daccord (essentially whoever they choose to be their starter of the future)

Potential Return:
With an extension in place (maybe something like 6M/yr x 3 yrs) on Freddie, maybe the Sens would be willing to part with someone like Lassi Thomson, reminiscent of the Stone for Brannstrom deal.

Some may say that is too expensive for Freddy, I'd also be happy with the Columbus and San Jose 2nds in 2021

Alternatively for Johnsson, I could see him moved to Nashville/LA where he can also slot into their middle 6 to bolster their offenses (as Nashville has Sissons on their 1st line)

Johnsson and Andersen for Bennett, Rittich and a 2021 2nd would be an offer from Calgary.

Detroit isnt doing that trade. Also Senators are not giving up a very good prospect for Anderson when they could potentially get him or someone better in FA, that would be idiotic. Why does Dermott take 1.25 if Holl got 2?

Holl is better, and since he will be a UFA coming off his contract it makes sense he earns that. For Dermott, he will still be an RFA and will have an opportunity to make big buck with Toronto. Similar to what DeAngelo did last year.

Holl has a third of the NHL experience as Dermott and I would hardly say hes better. Maybe on a 1 year deal but if its 2+ years, its at least 2 mill per

I like the offer. Makes Kerfoot expendable since we would have a capable 3C in Bennett. I was thinking Calgary would be a decent destination, but I think you only have 10ish M in cap space to slot in 7 players. (And adding Freddie/Johnsson eats up 4M from this deal)

I originally had the deal at the WSH 2nd for Johnsson, because he fills a need in their lineup (and if they take Laf/Stutzle, they can slide in at 3LW for a year to get sheltered minutes.
Not opposed to changing it back to a late 2nd.

And Dermott is just for cap reasons. Holl is expendable imo

I'm not opposed to changing it to a one year deal at 1.25M.
I also think Dermott>Holl. Holl went through a really good stretch that earned him a contract, then regressed massively. Dermott was steady throughout the season imo

If Holl can play like he did early last year he has an easy spot in the top-4.

It would definitely require some tough decisions from the Flames but would be worth it IMO. Johnsson would give them a viable top 9 scoring threat which they could use at least one more of. Andersen gives them the best option in net they’ve had since Kipper.

For the Leafs, Rittich gives them quality goaltending for just about half of what Andersen is making, however they will need to use Campbell a little more since Rittich hasn’t proven to be the workhorse Andersen is. All told that tandem makes less than Freddie. Bennett would likely play much better in Toronto as he has always played his best under pressure and every game as a Leaf is under pressure. The 2nd replenishes their picks which they have traded a few away of in recent memory
