These were indeed somewhat reasonable deals for such players about half a decade ago. It's 2020 now.

If PLD was a winger you'd have a lot larger arguement.
But I do get where you are coming from. 20 goal 50-60 point centers shouldn't break the bank. I think I see him at roughly 7 myself.
I do get where you are coming from though. His faceoffs bother me, especially for the kind of player he is. 43.4 career, 44.something this year.
But his 5v5 production is so solid. 20 goals last year, 15 this year in 70 games. 5v5 is where games are won and lost. He's just a lot to handle out there when he plays his game.

I'm not going to pick this apart to grandly but I think the highs there are pretty close and in general the production is pretty close.
The issue here is you want to compare him to a contract signed 5 years ago, but it's not apples to apples.
I think you helped prove my inital estimate that I'd give him roughly 7 on a deal. That's the value here.
