You are misunderstanding the meaning of "value". One major reason Puljujarvi's value is very low right now is because he doesn't want to report to EDM. Meaning all EDM can do is choose what the other team offers OR let him rot in Finland. Had JP been willing to sign in EDM and try to get back to his former self, he'd be worth more in trade. Not what a former 3rd rounder should be but at least more.
As it stands right now, it makes more sense for EDM to make a statement with JP by not trading him NOR resigning him. That way he gets a chance to improve his game in Finland, EDM holds out hope he decides to come back to the team and finally they send a message to all future prospects - you can't just cry and go home to get out of your contractual obligations because you are not happy with playing time etc.....
Its not like they are missing out on any major offers from other teams or anything. Even Lebrun/Dreger mentioned a while ago that the apparent price EDM wanted, no was willing to pay and it wasn't very high anyway. So you can be sour about what you feel JP is worth but value is only what the market will pay and right now no one will pay what you seem to think he's worth.
Also the Kotkaniemi vs Puljujarvi comparison is not remotely close...... your comparing of JP's 3 unproductive years to KK's 1...... Not to mention that KK hasn't played with great players so Im not sure where you are getting that from. There's a difference in age, position, previous accomplishments, etc etc etc.
Also you have to remember that virtually every GM still wants JP and at the very least try and rehabilitate him themselves. They just don't want to pay the asking price. Until other GM's are willing to pay it, JP's value is in limbo.
