2020 - DET OTT trades

Créé par: gregb569
Équipe: 2020-21 Penguins de Pittsburgh
Date de création initiale: 8 mai 2020
Publié: 11 mai 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
I can see Fast getting more $ in FA if he doesn't resign with NYR. If that's the case, I'm comfortable promoting Simon to 1st line RW to fill that void and using someone in our org to fill 3rd line LW. (Marleau, O'Connor) or sign a depth FA F like Leivo/Janmark/Nieto

I doubt MIN offers Soucy 4x what he's making right now, but I can see him blossoming into a phenomenal shutdown D for us learning alongside Hainsey and Gonchar.

As for Hainsey - he takes a bit of a discount to come back to PIT to chase another cup before retirement. Again, if he gets more $ elsewhere and doesn't sign with us, I'm comfortable playing either Riikola/Ruhwedel if necessary or signing another depth D like TVR/Bogosian/Daley/Rutta

I think both trades are fair value and UFA/RFA signings are fair. If this exact team gets assembled in real life (obviously it wouldn't) I think they'd be a heavy heavy SC favourite.

Detroit says done deal, Just read a article that Yzerman could target Matt Murray. He'd be more costly and with his injury history would scare me off. Would rather have Jarry should JR make him available instead.

I'm so torn as a PIT fan between selling Murray/Jarry but at the end of the day, I think you'd be crazy to NOT go with the 2x cup winner. Yes, he's had some injury troubles but I attribute some of those to just sheer bad luck. Sell high on Jarry rather than sell low on Murray at this point. The only thing I'm worried about is committing big bucks long term with Murray. He needs to prove he can get back to his elite level and stay healthy.

Yeah from the sound of things Matt Murray will be the odd man out, Curious what JR is asking for him. What are the Penguins needs? Do they need LD help i'd do Dennis Cholowski+Edmontons 2020 2nd round pick for Matt Murray. The only thing that would scare me especially with Detroit. Would be would murray commit long term with us. Don't want to give up assets short term he'd have to be willing to stay awhile if Yzerman offered him a good contract say 5 x 5 or so. Will be curious how he handles our Goaltending situation this summer. Short term or long term.

That and his GAA and SV% since winning the cup are pretty average. I'd do the Jarry deal but they can keep Bjugstad and E-Rod.

Johnson has better PS than every D on OTT roster besides obviously Chabot, and Hainsey.
Getting a player you can use + afford for a 5th is a no brainer.. especially considering you get to move up in the draft by 60 spots? You'd be stupid not to take this.

As a PIT fan I wouldn't be opposed to a 5x5 for Murray, however I think he wants more $... we shall see

It shouldn't be a problem according to his equation Bjugstad and E-Rod don't factor into the Jarry deal.

Yeah Bjugstad would be just a one year deal then he'd bolt, No thanks to that. And i've never have been a big E-Rod fan either. So i see what you're saying.

Yeah Murray will probably want minimally 5 years $30 million on his next deal. Not sure if Yzerman would do that.

Johnson also had the luxury of playing for a great team and system in Pittsburgh so saying he's better than every other Ottawa defense-man other than the 21 year old playing 30 minutes a night and his 36 year old partner on a rebuilding team that finished 2nd last is a poor argument to make.

Ottawa has enough picks in this draft. Another 3rd rounder is going to make Pierre lose his mind and acquire a guy on the wrong side of 30 while still giving up a pick for another 3 years. Not when Ottawa also has enough LHD spots on the roster they would rather play and develop. So Ottawa rejects plain and simple.

Ottawa could also re-sign Hainsey or any other veteran D... for free...

Don't see why trading Jarry/Erod for picks makes sense...Bjugstad for a 4th is fine but we need actual assets--not picks for a goalie.

No need for Erod/Jugs and getting a 2nd for Jarry is good value to make a move further down the line. ie trade deadline time because it's almost a guarantee that GMJR will make a TDL move

OTT laughs as they hang up on that.

Too expensive. Too long. In the way of OTT's prospect development.

If you want to dump Johnson its your 2021 1st and you get Jaros/Lajoie coming back.

LOL I love how you're trolling someone who has logic in this argument. You don't want Jack Johnson because he's not good. Why would we? Why wouldn't we just sign a vet dman who's actually decent?

Chabot
Brannstrom
Wolanin
Zub
Borowiecki
Hainsey

All guys who are cheaper (with the exception of Chabot) and likely better than Johnson.

If you're not giving us a 1st, we'll do Zaitsev one for one and that's about it pal lol. Not sure what 3 year cap dump only costs a 3rd to get rid of when teams spend a 1st to get rid of guys with 1 year left. Precedent my dude.

Good thing you're not a GM.

Wow you're my hero bro!

Good thing JJ has more PS than everyone there other than Chabot & Hainsey!
It's not even that JJ is bad, we need to move out cap and Ottawa has tons of it..

Gudbranson was dealt with 0 RETENTION, no added pick and we even got a 7th back! Only difference is JJ is signed for 1 more year... 1 year of 3.25M does not cost a 1st "my dude"
Wow, talk about precedent!

Again, I'll reiterate, good thing you fellas are not GM's!

Im not afraid to defend the logic of my trades. Lets talk it out.

In the comments and description, I expressly stated that this was under a hypothetical. This trade offer or offer sheet Cirelli for more than they can afford with resigning Sergachev.

Good thing you didn't acknowledge my Gubdranson statement!

When I make a trade, I go off past trade values. If Gudbranson costs no assets to move and we get something (although basically nothing in a 7th rounder) there is 0 basis for you to say it costs a 1st to move JJ.

With the "value" of this trade, there is little to no incentive for Ottawa to take on the remaining 3 years at a combined 8.25 million in actual money of a 33 year old 5-6 LHD. Not for a 3rd as a "sweetner" and giving up a 5th round pick on top of taking on a bad contract. Maybe if there was retention on JJ. Point is the value and is not there, plain and simple. Gudbranson's contract is different and not nearly as bad of a contract as that of JJ's. 1 year compared to 3 more after this season... Also, Anaheim needed stability on the back end at the time because of a lack of RHD suitable to Guddy's role. It was a win for both teams.

Let's do a little analysis of this proposed deal:

#1- The contract is bad one that is universally criticized to this day.
#2- JJ would be in the way of development. Ottawa has numerous, young, more mobile and more talented LHD that would be suitable to the 5-6 role (Wolanin, Borowiecki, Brannstrom, Lajoie and Mike Reilly).
#3- Ottawa doesn't need help reaching the cap floor when there is more than enough bodies in house that need to be re-signed that will do that (Borowiecki, Duclair, Tierney). Not to mention the amount UFA's that can sign 1 year deals.
#4- A 3rd round pick in this years draft as a sweetner is laughable when other sweetners included prospects and higher-round picks. Hence @MelnykOut's counter of a 1st round pick. Look what it cost to move Marleau and Zaitsev in Toronto, which is a more comparable trade in this instance than that of Gudbranson.
#5- This trade heavily favours that of Pittsburgh. There is no way that it doesn't. It will cost more to move him.
#6- The need for Pittsburgh to move JJ is a lot higher than Ottawa's need to acquire him. Which is why it will cost more for Ottawa to take him on.

Toronto traded Zaitsev to you guys with Brown as the only sweetener and they got Ceci (who is not that much worse than Zaitsev) and a 3rd back!! Zaitsev is owed 4.5M UNTIL 2024! and you're sitting here saying JJ costs a 1st to move tears of joy
