1. Flat cap, 1 CBO
2. Roster players cannot be traded during the early 2020 draft
3. Must carry 25 players for a condensed schedule that occasionally features 3 games in 3 nights, similar to the AHL
Please note the Oilers' cap hit increases due to the Flames using their CBO on Lucic: this is the only way to reflect those savings.
A paper transaction earlier in the week allows Edmonton to accomplish a Puljujarvi-to-NYR trade that both teams should find reasonable. Andersson has effectively no value, Gauthier is far too raw, and Puljujarvi is by a mile the best player in the deal. A swap of first round picks completes the deal for Edmonton. I like the option of taking Mercer at #13, but have chosen here to flip the NYR 1st to pull more draft capital out of a deep draft. I think this is fair value for Minnesota to move up 11 spots in a deep draft.
With this being Edmonton's 25-man roster, I'd believe that Green/Bouchard, Haas/Khaira, Gauthier/Chiasson, Benson/Nygard, and Lagesson/Jones would rotate out as needed. The odd night might see load management for any of Edmonton's top-nine. Edmonton's ability to inject a lot of young legs in some of those triple-header slogs coupled with the talent it already has will likely nab them extra points in the standings, and could help keep the veteran players fresh for a deeper playoff run. WCF isn't unimaginable with this roster.
