Ranger reporters Rick Carpiniello & Larry Brooks have been reporting the last 2 months that they feel the rangers are going to buy out lundquist and keep a tandem of Igor and Georgiev. with the league not giving any hints in allowing a compliance buyout as many thought they might, if the rangers choose to buy out hank they would have to retain 5.5 mill of his salary in 20-21 and 1.5 mill for 21-22.

imho, i've been on the bandwagon to trade georgiev and keep hank for one more season. I've come to this conclusion because the team is going to bring back a solid haul for georgiev, even though rick carpiniello doesn't believe so. if hank is bought out, signing georgiev to an extension is going to cost btwn 1.5-2.2 mill. maybe even more. that almost eats up the savings from the hank buyout.

what i want to ask my fellow ranger fans is if you had the choice what do you think is the best decision for the team? and if georgiev is traded what teams do you see making a run for him? i've always felt detroit makes a perfect fit for him but wing fans on this site haven't returned the same feeling. where could he go? and what kind of package would it take for the rangers to trade him?

Both gets moved. Hank gets bought out and Georgiev gets traded for LD. Then NYR signs some experienced goalie to backup Shesterkin, such as Elliott for example.

if there is no CBO, is buying out hank a good idea? they wouldn't be saving that much money

Igor will start but Georgiev will have to start 2 games in a row here and there. Shesterkin is still learning. Can't give him like 58 starts as soon as next year and expect him to carry us to the playoffs

Well the team traded Brian Leetch when there was no salary cap...so I think they have the balls to let Hank go.

Now with a replacement already on the roster that's 14 years younger, 6 mil cheaper and just as good....seems like a no-brainer hockey decision to keep Georgiev, give him a cheap 2 year bridge and then trade him at 26 like he's Cory Schneider.

Lundqvist has been a touch better this year. Georgiev much better last year. It's close. But I probably give the edge to Georgiev. Though Hank's playoff pedigree is almost untouchable.

The Rangers get 8.25 in capspace and have to only pay 4.125 to Hank first year and same for second year. so no doesent really save money but they get capspace to resign deangelo and georgiev and maybe ryan strome to a 4-5 mill for 3-4 years

i'm sorry you confused me, your math isn't adding up to me. attached is the link to hanks buyout. the 3 million the rangers save with the hank buyout isn't re-signing all those players. remember there is still a few more peoples the team has to sign as well to make the 22-23 player roster.

i thought about this as well. the option i think they end up settling on. i'm at the opinion if the team can get back a decent return for him now why not take it. it's not like hanks a bum and/or they'll be saving a lot of salary buying him out. if it there was going to be a CBO my opinion would be different.

the rangers def are all business at the end of the day and i have no doubt they would trade hank if they could. to be fair on the brain leetch trade, he was becoming a free agent. the team was a mess. at the time it was rumored leetch was looking for a multi year extension from the rangers. i remember because i watched every game that season. which was a struggle, trust me on that lmao.

hank is still good. if hank becomes a free agent there will be teams offering him more than what halak signed for. i have no doubt in that.

yeah I recall lol. I agree, Hank should have trade value. After all if Fleury still has value, Lundqvist should too (Hank's been better over the last 2 seasons). The thing is whether Hank will actually green light a deal. He'll want to pick his destination, and it'd have to be a contender. There's not too many contenders that need goaltending. I could imagine Minnesota to play with Zucc. With a better goaltender they're in good shape.

the wild would be a great fit for him. i'm sure hanks agent would rather push for a buyout rather than trade. it'll be more financially rewarding for him that way.

Look when it comes to it hank barely got to play this season and no offense he’s the better “backup” when given the chance to play over Georgiev. And we can resign him for a year or two after his contract is up if he plays well but I don’t see the rangers buying out hank. Georgiev will push for a starting job in the next couple years and we already have one so imo we should sell high on the way he’s played so far and get a return similar to raanta

its hard to estimate what we actually got in return for raanta because stepan was involved in the trade. but i don't totally disagree with you. even though i think georgiev has been better i still think keeping hank is the better option.

And with the way we played this year we will be contenders soon and I’d rather have hank for that time
