He also said that he think that it will be in Montreal. He said that he believes in the team youth and he loves the direction the team was headed with Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Romanov, Caufield.

He would just not have talk about it if he was intending to leave. He would just not gave interview to Montreal media if he want to leave Montreal. And what was he supposed to to say when he asked about it:
« I love loosing, i play hockey to lose all year and go play golf the fatest i can. » is that would have made more sense??

exactly, MTL resigns Gally for that price for sure.... the problem is if he starts asking north of 8M.

what I can see with Gally doh, is a Plekanec to Toronto type of deal... where a contract is already set up for him to come back.

I just don’t see that happening. If it’s money MTL ponies up more than that Gallagher would have to want to leave and go specifically to Colorado for that kind of money.

That money is fair market value for him. Sure, he could get slightly higher (eg. 7m) with a lesser team, but If he wants to play on a top contender then he'd take that offer.

Whatever the case, if we really need to make capspace for a big splash we can always move Johnson's $6m hit.
