Based on Feedback Revisiting - Any Takers

Description
Chatted with a few Devils fans and ended up here. Using some of their input here.

Apparently Kerfoot "doesn't want to play in NJ"... so... theres that.

Revisiting the "Any Takers" thread from earlier with some adjustments.

I'm not sure if the Flames are the best example of a potential "Kerfoot Trade", to be honest. Just using them as a template team for money reasons. If there is a player that you'd prefer in the deal, feel free to comment on that.

22 man roster. Flat cap. About 50K left.

Tight, tight, tight but... I do like the look of this group overall.

Feedback gentlemen? Thanks in advance.

This is a trade that I was actually thinking of doing
I think the leaf's can get away with having New Jersey retain between 700k-1mil
also think Edmonton wants a 3c

Forget Deslauriers, replace Kap with Johnsson, remove Wood

Looks solid

I just know that many leaf fans aren't high on moving Kapanen

Nope. That doesn't work as far as the creation of a balanced team goes IMO. This has to be about making the money work too. It changes things dramatically from a Devil's perspective as well. The "receiving team" needs to get quality over anything else.

Thanks for the feedback though.

Most Oilers fans would say otherwise... But... I agree with you. They keep belching out Cap manifestations and there is some truth there.

We'll keep Des Lauriers and the third. He's the ideal fourth liner, and we don't need yet another middle-6 left-handed forward.

I'm surprised New Jersey fans are okay with that deal. I would have thought that Zacha and Kapanen are equivalent in value, with any on-ice difference being offset by Zacha's lower cap hit and the fact that he's a natural center, but Wood is more valuable than Dermott and Severson is much. much more valuable than Liljegren and a future second. NJ with Severson is in the same boat as Anaheim with Manson: take him away, and what you have left on that side is frightening.

Uh-oh, looks like we're starting a run of disagreements here lol. I'm not going to comment on the rest of the trade because I don't really have that strong an opinion on it, but on this I do: Kapanen's value far exceeds that of Zacha. I understand your points that bring favor to Zacha; lower cap hit and natural center. The thing is though, even at $2.25m, Zacha is over-payed. He is a black-hole defensively (like bad even for the Leafs) and very bad in most other categories. He puts up an okay amount of points for a 3C, but about 30% of his points have come on the PP the last four years. He won't be getting that same opportunity with the Leafs, nor would he with most other teams. If there were a Zacha for Kapanen trade going down, NJ would have to add significantly.

In the majority of circumstances, I would agree with you that the positional value and cap hit would help to even out trade value, but Zacha is one of the few exceptions (unless the counterpart of the trade is someone on a much closer level to him).

I know you said you 'would have thought' that the value would be equal, so I hope it doesn't seem like I'm going after you here, I just nearly short circuited when I read that.

On this subject, I will take your far more informed opinion as instructive. Thanks for providing me with concrete knowledge on the two players. I appreciate being educated.
