Description
This I this is what I think the OPENING NIGHT roster could be next year if the cap does not change/changes very little.
I didn’t make any trades (other than the Johnsson cap dump) or sign any FA’s because 1. I’m not as researched on the other teams in the league so I’m not about to suggest something when I have limited knowledge on what I’m talking about. 2. It would get super messy and complicated (I tried one with trades and it did not look pretty). And 3. I feel like Dubas and company would like to see what they have going for them against actual competition before they make any trades to improve the defence as Lehtonen is playing in NA for the first time, and Sandin and Lilly both would still be considered rookies.
I didn’t put anyone in scratched in the scratched part because I feel like the Malgin, Bracco and especially Sandin could all easily be interchangeable with others in the lineup depending on how things work out. Also there has been an idea that, because next season may be delayed, I heard a suggestion that the league would have some stretches of 3 games in 3 nights, which would mean that you would have to do load management, especially for guys like Spezza

I agree in that I can see Sandin playing over Lilly, but I’d see him more on the left side and Lehtonen playing the right, but this is also why I didn’t put him (or anyone) in the scratched section.
If you want a more in depth explanation about why I did it how I did, read the team explanation

Facts hes still not ready, wondering if he could be moved in a trade if they can get actual value for him but he didn't look good for the few games he played with the big club this season

I agree... Dont think TO is making any major moves. Trade market will be tough this year due to lack of cap increase.

As I said in the title and in the team explanation, I wasn’t getting anyone from outside the organization. This meant that I had to use the assets that the leafs had from last year either on the big club, or on the Marlies, and yes, Lilly isn’t a great option rn, but he was the best defenceman other than Sandin on the Marlies this season.
Even if I was doing more trades and actually trying to get some guys that could play the right side, I still wouldn’t trade Lilly, and I find it confusing why people say to trade him. He’s only 20, still has years left on his elc and is a right shot defenceman who has gotten a lot better at playing defence and looks like he could be getting better

Thats why I said if they could get actual value for Liljegren aka bringing in someone of his potential whos already an established NHLer to help the Leafs win now. Leafs went from a rebuilding team with time to a win now team when they signed JT
