Not with a salary that makes up 15% of the total cap. Buffalo wouldn't be able to afford him.

Ya but someone will. A 100 pt guy is a 100 pt guy, and if Marner stays healthy he should hit that. I see a new TV deal and CBA helping the cap to raise again and hopefully in 3-4 years we will forget that Marners contract was once seemed bad

Ya and he'll only have 1 year left on his deal at a good cap hit.

All teams will be desperate to shed cap if this happens. I doubt they would allow it.

Realistically I don't think Marner will get traded. He is a major piece and is such a skilled player. In the next few year salaries are going up and up. We'll see more Skinner/Bob-like overpayments, and Marner's contract will look fine.

If the cap drops as much as it should based on profits lost trading Marner or Matthews will be the only option.

Toronto is too rich, it won't happen. They make hundreds of million every year, and I see the NHL leaving the cap at the same while many teams are forced to drop payrolls. Or a rollback. Toronto is also a team that everyone wants to play for so replacing players if it happens wont be a worry.

No chance that Leafs are giving away a franchise player in Mitch Marner to Ottawa.

You know that isn't true at all. Yep, I'm sure the cap will drop because the cap is based on revenues. But the NHLPA and owners will come with a solution. And it sure isn't that players that already have contracts are guaranteed all their money and the remaining players will be playing for minimum. There just isn't enough teams with cap availability to take on these excess players from 26 teams that can't field a 22 man roster with 74m cap.
Leafs aren't going to have more cap problems with a reduced cap that they would have had if the cap was projected be 86m.
I know the CapFriendly format doesn't fit the 15% that all players will take if the cap is 74m, but folks should start getting real in their solutions to a reduced cap.
