Some dude quoted incorrect stats in a Matthews vs Eichel post recently I'm here to correct that.

Matthews Eichel
_____________________________________
0.56gpg > 0.38gpg
0.42EVgpg > 0.27EVgpg
1.01ppg > 0.95ppg
0.73EVppg > 0.61EVppg

51.7FO% > 43.7FO%
0.95TKpg > 0.56TKpg (Takeaways per game)
0.77GVpg > 0.84GVpg (Giveaways per game)
0.85BLKpg > 0.53BLKpg (Blocks per game)
0.37HITpg < 0.65HITpg (Hits per game)

52.6EVCF% > 49.6EVCF% (Even Strength Corsi %)
Matthews also has a dSZ% (defensive zone starts %) of 42% compared to Eichel's 41.8% too.

Matthews is a +37.4 in expected goals while Eichel is a -12.5. He's also the best 5v5 goal scorer since entering the NHL.

In Matthews first year, he finished 38th in Selke votes, 11th in Hart votes, and 6th In the Byng votes. Since then he's placed 8th twice in Byng votes. Matthews also won the calder.
Eichel finished 4th in calder votes and has had nothing since then.

Take from these stats what you will, but they indicate Matthews is a better goal scoring, point producing, and all around center than Eichel. His isolated number show even more dominance, especially defensively.

Matthews has had better linemates and teams since entering the NHL compared to Eichel, but not by much. Matthews most common linemates have been William Nylander, Zach Hyman, Patrick Marleau, Kasperi Kapanen, and Mitch Marner. All of which had their rookie year the same year Matthews did (Other than Patty). Matthews became a proven NHLer before all of them.
Eichels most common linemates have been Reinhart, Kane, Pominville, and Olfosson.
I've seen people making the argument that results would be different if you were to switch Eichel and Matthews. That might be true, or it might not be. Anything without statistical evidence in sports isn't an argument that can be made with certainty.

Matthews is currently the better player and has been since entering the NHL but neither has hit their potential yet so I guess we'll see who the better player is in thier prime.

I see Eichel as a guy who shows up every night, unlike Matthews... am I wrong?

Eichel has a better PPG than Matthews since 16-17. Obviously Eichel would have a lot more points than Matthews if they switched roles considered they have the exact same PPG this season.
Matthews is a better goal scorer and he’s better at the face off circle. He must also be better at encouraging his teammates to help him out too smile

He has no other option. Sabres are 5-15-2 when Eichel doesn’t record a point.
6-17-1 when he has one point
8-2-2 when he has two points
5-0 when he has three points
4-0 when he has four points
So he really needs to get two points for his team to win games.

I mean I get it, but there's another side to this. He could just be bored and not show up...

I think my big takeaway on this is Matthews blocks way to many shots. .85, stop trying to break an ankle dude. You make 11+ million a year and are the franchise. You don't need to be out for 8-12 weeks and then come back gimping all over the ice because it doesn't really heal for months.

We're just going to ignore Eichels rookie season? If we're doing that, then Matthews has had a better ppg since the 17-18 season

Lol Matthews is better. Its just that people hate the leafs so they just go around saying
"Eichel is better because he doesn't play with as good of players as Matthews'

Please explain how Matthews doesn't show up every night.
Do you expect him to score a goal every game?

He was invisible so many times this season, didn't bother to put in any effort at all, no drive, nothing.

When he shows up he's a top 5 player in the league. When he doesn't he's not even top 15

Methodology of determining the better player questionable... Correct conclusion tho, Matthews is the better player... I'm not even sure Eichel is the best player on his team...

Ah yes the only way to measure someone's game is his point total per game... smh

How many times have I seen Matthews lose the puck and then doing NOTHING to get it back??? That's what drives me freaking nuts about the Leafs they play 3 amazing games and then take 2 games off, leaving Freddy out to dry. They aren't consistent. They don't work. They have all the talent in the work but that alone doesn't win you a cup. Matthews is the perfect example of this

Lmao. Talk about Matthew defense he has way more takeaways then Eichel
Andersen has been a complete garbage can. Ever since January he has had a 897 save percentage for just including 5 on 5

So you trash Andersen after he saved them hundreds of times from 2016 to 2019??? Wow so much for respect. The guy has played over 60 games every single year ever since he was a Leaf, what did you expect would happen??? Yet I see almost no Leafs fans talking about this, or about the fact that the team doesn't bother to work 2 games out of 3 or that signing JT was a mistake because it was rushing the process, instantly making the Leafs cup contenders when they clearly weren't ready
