I mean I get why. I think my problem with this is it's not 2 way.
He makes 1 million no matter where he plays. The guy spent most of last year in the AHL.
That's a lot to pay a guy in the AHL.
So I think for me, I'd like to see this be a 2 way deal.

He didnt play in the AHL with the Ducks last season once we got him, the #3LD spot is his to lose for next season

Hopefully one day he'll have a bunch of little Djoos babies, so he can name them bloody Djoos, Orange Djoos, Grape Djoos and Apple Djoos.

He was arguably the Ducks best defenseman since joining the team. I’m also aware that the ducks had some injuries but all things considered he was able to play top pairing minutes and was extremely effective doing so. Great signing and I wouldn’t be surprised if he slips into the top 4 by years end. Capitals constantly give up on young talent. Most recently Stephenson Djoo and bura. Schmidt and Sanford also hurt.

This is a good signing for the Ducks, and would be a great one if (a) he plays his way into the team to stay next season, and (b) he stays with the team AFTER next season.

I just noticed that CapFriendly says that even when his new contract expires, Djoos will still be a Restricted Free Agent. Anybody know why? He'll be 27.

He is a 6/7 D at best. $1M is a little high but not horrible. If you notice, it is actually a 20% paycut.

Yeah, I got no clue either. My understanding is that after his 26th birthday, when the contract that embraces that date expires, he becomes a free agent at the end of the period. But I have that by osmosis.
