Description
My moves explained:
-Kerfoot is a good 3C/LW, but is simply too expensive. Nashville is a team that wants younger players to do a minor rebuild. Jarnkrok is a cheap 3C. Seems fair to me, and to people I've asked.

-DeMelo is an excellent shutdown DFD and would be the perfect partner for Rielly. However, with up and coming guys like Sandin an Liljigren the term doesn't have to be too long.

-Puljajarvi is a problematic player. He is still good prospect, but his refusal to play is alarming. I'd have him worth at about a 2nd and a 4th. Toronto is a very European-friendly team with tons of their roster coming from there, and with the arrival of Lehtonen and the success of Kapanen I think he would be happy to play in Toronto. The extra picks might be unnecessary. I have Kapanen on his off-wing but he's done it in the past and if it means that JP develops well it's not a huge deal. He is still playing RW on the PP and PK.

-Bogosian is a very under rated DMan and has been passed over lots. He would be a great insurance guy in case Lehtonen doesn't turn out. Also for when 3/4 of the D ends up getting injured.

-I really really hate trading Dermott, but in the end it's him or DeMelo theres not room for both. It just feels bad trading a skilled young defensemen who's been playing since he's 21. It would be bad if Dermott turned into a star with another team, but this is a risk I'm willing to take:
As Dermott is a healthy scratch on this team I see him getting moved to a team that is rebuilding and would love a young defensemen who can play on the right side comfortably, and in the future can play with their elite LHD. Ottawa comes to mind. I had Toronto taking back a third which seems reasonable as well as Jaros who isn't really an NHLer but if everyone gets injured again I think he could play up.

-The special teams make enough sense. The PP looks excellent. Lehtonen is a proven OFD QB and could really take charge of that second unit. While the PK isn't great it's gotten better. Demelo is an excellent DFD for that first unit. For the second unit I put Sandin over Rielly as Sandin is looking for more minutes, while Rielly is looking for yes and hopefully saving him that 2 min a night can help keep him healthy. If Sandin can't play PP minutes Bogosian may have to start playing. I would not play Lehtonen on a PK unit, as the KHL-NHL ice is different and positioning is different. He is also quite small and isn't a PK guy anyway.

Thank you! Lots of people think hes worth a 3rd but he should get at least a 2nd. I just didn't want to start a war.

I don't know. His advanced stats and basic stats are pretty good and I don't want to seem like a stathead but he seems good to me. Alternatively you keep Dermott which is just as good.

Ya I really don't like the idea of moving him but it might be necessary. If you don't move him don't sign Bogosian. Pretty simple.

what? his stats are junk all around, even with an 8 game blip to "ok" playing sheltered as hell on Tampa. He's not a regular NHL guy anymore and he certainly isnt worth over a million dollars on a roster where he cant be sheltered like a fresh faced rookie.

I don't mind kerfoot, but I think the preds pass. The other two added to the trade do nothing - and really just seems like a lateral move for NSH. So may as well just keep the known commodity that is already well liked on the team

what? His corsi and fenwick for are both above 50%, his offensive stats are fine and even if he was playing slightly sheltered minutes he was still 3rd pairing! It's rare you see 3rd pairing guys anywhere near a 50% on those metrics. Also, his numbers weren't improved after going to TB and even when he was playing for a god-awful Buffalo he played well. I get everyone looks at stats differently but that seems self-explanatory.

his raw corsi and fenwick are only above 50% for the 8 games he was with tampa. Like literally for his entire career all the way back to atlanta, his icetime was 6th among defenders on tampa, almost 3 mins less a game than the 5th guy (shattenkirk) so he may have been getting 3rd pairing icetime by technicality, he was still used significantly less than the other 3rd pairing guy.
This isnt about seeing stats differently, this is about realizing that 8 games on the best team in the NHL behind one of the best defensive teams in the NHL does not good stats make

Be careful with trading Veronneau to Ottawa as we have to give Ottawa a 6th if he plays 10 nhl games!

I see this as a slight upgrade offensively, but not sure if Kerfoot brings the same defensive game. Don't know that much about him, but Kerfoot is 3 years younger, and seems to have offensive potential. Jarnkrok has never cracked 35 points, but Kerfoot has cracked 40 is 2 of 3 seasons.

I'd say Kerfoot and a 5th for Jarnkrok is fair given the salary difference.

Looking at what some teams got for cheap forwards at the deadline this season, I think if they trade him that they would get the most value at a time like that. Given the right circumstances, who knows, maybe he could fetch a 1st or a 2nd + good prospect or something like that (referencing Goodrow, Coleman). If NSH was trading for Kerfoot, I'd rather keep Jarnkrok and run them on the same line. I think losing Jarnkrok to get Kerfoot doesn't move the needle enough for NSH. If TOR needed a player back in a Kerfoot trade, I'd probably lean towards Bonino over Jarnkrok and add whatever on either side to make it work. I'm not sure if NSH even makes any big trades this summer - I see them more active in free agency.

Completely agree with you guys. I even posted that Dermott would get a first if you packaged him with a fourth and a fifth. Wouldn’t even consider trading him for a second.

Edmonton declines. If you want to substitute Johnsson with Kerfoot or Kapanen they would listen, but they aren't interested in Johnsson.

There isnt anything the leaves could do to get themselves passed the 1st round. They are a terrible organization. Even if there was something they could do, they are too stupid to actually execute it. They couldn't even name the right guy captain.

Jesper Lindgren? I'm not complaining.
And yes because we could trade Kerfoot for those picks, and Lindgren has almost no value to us.
