Not a great trade for Montreal

Doubt Montreal has any interest in dealing Gallagher anytime soon.

That trade is laughable

make the 1st unconditional. 1st, 2nd and young roster player seems fair. if gallagher really does want out that offer should be competitive. gallagher wants to play for a competitor and canes have a good future so he'll probably extend there anyway.

Gallagher will be a UFA, not an RFA. It wouldn't be an offersheet. He's just a free agent.

no worries. most habs fans are going to dump on that trade but it's pretty comparable to other big name trades. if gallagher really wants out i think it's a fair offer if the 1st is unconditional.

No one is gonna give an unconditional 1st for a pending UFA. It's why I structured the offer the way it is. Looking at the Tyler Toffoli trade as a comparable. Madden is a meh prospect, Fleury and Foegele are both young NHL proven good young guys. LA got a 2nd and took a cap dump, Carolina give 2 2nds and don't dump anyone. I just don't see why this trade is bad. Gallagher is more of a playmaker, I get that. But in terms of production Toffoli and Gallagher are comparables. If we go one step further and look at the Taylor Hall trade, NJD got Merkley who's a questionable prospect, Kevin Bahl who's a long shot, Schnarr who I don't know much about, a 1st and a 3rd that could become a 2nd. Hall was a former Hart winner, and is one of the best wingers in the league. Gallagher is not of that same quality, and asking for an unconditional 1st makes it comparable to the Hall trade which is a major loss for Carolina. It HAS to be conditional for it to work I think. MTL fans may not like it, but there's still people that think they won the Subban for Weber, and Sergachev for Drouin trades.

Tl;Dr What do you think a fair offer for Gallagher is from Carolina?

That's just too much I think. Maybe if it's top 10 protected and drop the other pick it may interest Carolina, but I just think that's too much for even as high a calibre player as Gallagher, a rental.

lottery protection is fair. I don't think the canes would miss the playoffs anyway, especially with gallagher.

Then I don't think anyone's gonna complain about the protection. It's just in that worst case scenario like Dougie, Pesce, Mrazek, and Reimer all get injured but the odds of that happening AGAIN should be next to none
