This team tries to address the actual issue with the team which is defense. Since the start of December, the Rangers were top 10 in Shots on Goal rate, Goals Scored Rate, and Expected Goals Scored Rate in the league. They were also bottom 10 in all of those categories against. Their defense needs work. This team attempts to remove the main defensive culprits (Strome, Howden, Staal, Smith, Hajek) and replace them with defensive upgrades (Faksa, Lehkonen, Oleksiak), while also allowing our young prospects room to grow. Positionally, Rangers had holes at 3C, 3LW, and bottom 4 LHD, which these help to close. TVR is also brought in until Lundkvist is ready, which he could be coming out of camp, at which point TVR becomes a 7D.
According to EW's SPAR (Standings Points Above Replacment) stat, the transactions alone would net the team 7-8 points in the standings, making the Rangers a top 10 NHL team. However, in addition to the transactions, more allocated ice time for players such as Fox, Deangelo and Chytil, would likely lead to even greater results.
I've also presumed that under the new Playoff Format for the 19-20 season, Rangers miss the playoffs, but move up to 7th OA in the 2020 draft where they pick Lucas Raymond. Carolina pick ends up being around 18-20th OA and Rangers select Dylan Holloway. Raymond returns to the SHL to start 20-21 and Holloway goes back to NCAA. Miller starts the season in the AHL, but is called up permanently after the Oleksiak trade at the deadline. Lundkvist also starts in AHL but manages to squeeze in about 30 NHL games as he adjusts to North American ice.
