every single player except those 3 are under contract after next year and even if the cap stays flat for 2 years they have over 17 million in cap space. thats before making any moves.

And the nhl gets a new TV deal and expansion draft. Capitals will have more than enough money to pay everyone. Worse case they trade hag Panik or kempny. Ovechkin doesn’t take anymore money. Vrana signs for 5-5.5m so that’s a 2m raise and sammy signs a 3m bridge deal. All issues solved

There will be a new TV deal.
But there are a lot of conversations right now on how the CBO is reached.
Their model for getting the cap is broken. They are using an old way of doing things and you are seeing it's effect right now.
They have to have a different conversation on how the cap is calculated so it's not so dependent on gate revenue and is linked more to TV/digital content etc...
Much like the NBA and NFL can cover all expenses off their TV/digital and the gate means little to them in the long run.
The model the NHL uses is old and broken and they have to seriously look at adapting to a new model. Especially given their current circumstances.
