Marleau lives on the west coast with his wife and kids.... Big Buff weighs about 300 something lbs.... Williams isnt coming to TO.... Hainsey works as a 6/7dman though... ARI, TBL and STL all dont have cap space.

Why would Tampa make that trade given their current position?

They're also adding $1.7m to their cap and are already in a tricky scenario.

If i was gm I would move cap out (i.e. Marner) to Minnesota for Spurgeon who is a top 4 rhd and is a good option for the leafs. Dont know how both sides would do it but from what I see it fits both teams interests and needs. However saying that, tampa would reject that trade, As for the veteran presence, spezza and maybe 1 other is good enough we dont want a bunch of old timers on the team.

You'd flip a 22 year old potential 100 point getter for 30 year old Dman signed for the rest of time? He's an absolutely fantastic Dman, but still.

need to work out the kinks cause if u really think about it moving 10.893 million for 7.575 for 7 years could work in the long run. With the extra cap space toronto could sign Dadonov or hoffman to replace marner. In short, if the leafs continue to get knocked out round 1 dubas may do something like this. Currently making a roster where this is done and so far the trade actually helps the leafs in the long run. Sure marner can get 100 point seasons but if the team continues to be in the top 5 for GA it may be time to move one of the big 4 and sure Nylander could be option 2 but he also could get 100 points if he plays at his current rate and continues to get better.

Trading a 22 year old superstar in a deal where the main piece is 30 seems like a good way to close your window faster to me.

actually it could make the leafs pass round 1 as they would have a solid defense, while keeping the amazing offense as Hoffman or Dadonov playing with Tavares or Matthews would keep the offense going while Spurgeon would be an excellent partner for rielly or muzzin. Also with the extra room from moving a player like Johnsson the leafs can bring another defense man like gudas or Demelo in solidifying the blue line even more. In general if the leafs continue to have little or no playoff success Marner or Nylander may be moved. Who knows dubas may even do it this offseason.
