Description
As shown here, Canes would have cap space for one more big trade acquisition or, alternatively, a big contract dump if the plan is as follows.

    1. Philipp Grubauer is probably staying with Colorado. Colorado is probably gonna extend him cause they have a lot of cap space
    2. Iafallo is gonna cost more. If he is that cheap I would be all over him
    3. Svech is gonna cost more on an 8 year deal

On the 3rd point, I was pointing out that even if Svech and Hamilton sign at or near the Aho cap hit (the best player on the team, so a good baseline), that we have plenty of space to go more on both.

Bean or Fleury is more Likely to be selected by Seattle. Carolina situation remind me a lot of Anaheim who had a tragic decision and let Theodore walk away.

I disagree. Bean is going to be protected along with Slavin and Pesce. Hamilton is likely to extend after the draft. If Skjei has a really good season with us this year, his long-term, cost-controlled contract suddenly becomes ideal for an expansion club.

I'd rather have Nino at 5.5 playing second line than Iafallo (also wouldn't give Paquette that much)

They protect Slavin, Hamilton and wither Pesce or Bean. They won’t leave Hamilton unprotected

It's a hypothetical. Dealing Nino after the Expansion Draft would give them even more room to negotiate with Hamilton and Svech. His cap hits can be replaced later with other trades if they have the room to add after the extensions.

I could see Svech sign a bridge deal like Laine

Hamilton is a UFA. It is highly, highly unlikely that Francis selects a UFA. If they want to protect themselves from that just in case, they can deal one of their many mid-round draft picks in exchange for not taking Hamilton, instead of having him on the protected list.

But Aho got a 5 year deal that walks him straight to unrestricted free agency. So unless you’re giving Svechnikov a 5 year deal as well, you’re probably going to need to pay more (for a long term deal).

And i strongly disagree. If Seattle build their team like Vegas they won’t take Long term contract. I think that they where no players that where sign for more then 2 years from who the selected. So i really think that They will turn themselves on a young promising defenseman who will have 4 more years under team control.

Svech isn't as good as Aho, though, at least not yet. This is where I'm getting at. If Svech has a PPG season next year, then I'll agree, of course. Aho is one of the very best forwards in the game. He was IMO worth about $9-$10M on an 8 year pact.

The players selected must be under contract for the following year.

Fair. I guess it depends on what Svechnikov does this season to decide what kind of contract he gets.

Skjei is on an excellent contract if he plays up to his potential this coming season. He'll only be 29 when his deal expires, which means that he is basically locked up for the remainder of his prime. That's the definition of an ideal selection in the Expansion Draft.

Nope. Seattle could still pick Hamilton if they wanted. The only problem is that he most likely just walks a week later. There is a limit to the amount of UFAs they can pick, but they’re still able to pick him.

The only way Carolina gets Grubauer is if his game falls off a cliff.

The Svechnikov extension, if you try and start an in house salary cap “he isn’t making more money than Aho”, you are asking for problems you can’t even imagine.

Again, Svech isn't as good as Aho yet. You have to understand that Aho was worth the moon if he agreed to an 8-year extension last year. Aho and his agent were the ones that prioritized an extension that would walk him directly to UFA over the one with the most possible cash. Svech could very well make more than Aho, but only if he performs at a level similar to him next year.
