Realistic 22 NYR Patience

Description
Whether through CBO, Trade, or Retirement, the Rangers are rid of Staal, Smith and Hank's contract, as well as the worst year of Shattenkirk's buyout hit.

Assuming they practice the "patience" that GM and Pres have been preaching, 2020-2021 will not be a playoff year, so they will sell high on some of their expendable pieces to gear up for their real upcoming window.

I think mgmt likes Strome a lot, and don't plan on giving him up.

I also simply don't see Trouba going anywhere.

I'm sure some tweaking needs to be done in order to avoid losing someone too valuable to Seattle, but I didn't get that deep.

I think there is just enough money left over to resign all of Zib, Kakko, Kravtsov, and Fox, with appropriate raises, the following offseason.

Georgiev splits starts with Shesty first half of the season. Georgiev is seen as a bonafide starter at that point in time and plays well.

He signs a 6-8 yr deal with San Jose, securing their G for the next year or two, as well as the following 4-6 where they start to try to contend again.

let's just trade georgiev this summer and let hank retire a ranger. everyone is overthinking it. only 1 hank in ranger history.

Seems like every Rangers fan on here thinks that D’Angelo is the man, why do you think he would sign a 4 x 6 million extension when Trouba signed an 8 million extension with very similar numbers before signing his deal. If I’m putting up better numbers than an 8 million dollar D I’d be after a bigger better deal than him.

only the basement dwellers on here that only read stats and don't know how to watch a game think deangelo is better than trouba. the rangers don't think it. it's only a handful of people on here.

I think I would expect to see Reunanen before Robertson, and neither are LHD anyway, right?

I could imagine Huska, but don't see it with Wall, not yet. If they end up with a top 10 pick in 2020 (likely) you're probably right, but I didn't want to do too much speculating. 1yr in HFD (actually, a really really good HFD team) probably wouldn't do the 2020 1st rounder any harm.

both LHD, bro. get your sh*t together.

Sharks just signed Melnichuk, so not going to happen. He should be ready in a year.

i'm sure that 21 year old is ready to go! SMH. georgiev is proven and a lot better than anything you guys have.

imo, the team had more problems with their forwards playing defense rather than their defenders.

yeah I looked at the tape. It's pretty much entirely the system. You might've noticed this too and if you haven't already you will now. Quinn has F1 and F2 play aggressive forecheck past the circles, with F3 at the offensive blue line. The problem is that the instead of the defenders hanging in the neutral zone to clog puck movement and prevent zone entries, he has the Defenders drop back into their own zone and often don't even engage until they're at the top of the circles.

This means that all you have to do is beat F3 and you have the ENTIRE neutral zone to gain speed as you enter the zone. It's entirely the structure of the transition defense and it is objectively terrible. Most Ranger goals against happen in transition and this is mainly why.

Andersson is well on his way to becoming the next Sean Avery. Detroit says no thanks to Andersson. Hájek is a good defender with very little offensive up side. If you look at Detroit's defense is the only defenseman with an offensive upside is Hronek. Since Detroit is still rebuilding why would they give up 2 picks for 2 players that are taking long to develop than the team originally expected. I would probably trade these pick for Georgiev since he has already proved he can play in the NHL.

in what way is andersson on his way to becoming sean avery? i'm just trying to make sense of that lol

"ready in a year" not right now, and that's a big no from SJ either way.

Yeah pretty strongly disagree across the board. Robertson doesn't have anything to prove at the WHL level, his defensive game is polished, he's already at NHL size and speed, and his offensive production has been steady. Those are usually the reasons you leave a prospect down in juniors. But players with polish like Robertson usually go right to AHL after a year of juniors. Most recently Alexander Alexeyev, Cal Foote before him. Those are probably better comps of former WHL players.

Robertson most likely spends 20-21 adjusting to AHL play and maybe even get a cup of coffee. And he's up in 21-22.

Lindgren is fine. Solid 3rd pairing guy that can hit people. Like a young Gudas. Who also looks pretty poor offensively without Fox carrying him.
https://hockeyviz.com/fixedImg/replacements/1920/NYR/lindgry98/wrap

But he's also a tier or 2 below guys like Miller and Robertson. If you're going to do the likely thing and move 1 of Deangelo or Trouba to the left side (most likely Trouba because he has a ton of experience there) then Lindgren would probably be the odd man out long term. Which is fine he has a ton of trade value.

lindgren just had a great season and your looking to get rid of him already, jesus.

someone explain to him the ohl and whl rules on drafted players!

my point is goalies are voodoo. throwing your eggs in a basket on a 21 year old with no nhl experience is a huge gamble. the sharks need someone now.

they should move one of their RD to the left. i was reading a couple months ago that quinn doesn't like playing defenseman on their offside. i also watched a press confidence that he said he doesn't like playing guys on their offside because it doesn't work in his defensive system. something like that.

nothing wrong with the rangers system, it's the players. quinn was one of the top couches in the league this past season.

I mean the main "improvement" was simply getting Hajek out of the lineup and playing Fox more. Also post deadline (and thus post-Skjei) the defense was once again terrible. I would think JD might make a move with Ruff this offseason after he had a year to watch

skjei got top mins and brought back a 1st for a reason, it's because he's good. carolina is going to love him.

many teams in the league play the same system the rangers do. it works.

no doubt, you have an argument. but, if ranger history shows anything they had no problem moving legends at the end of their careers.

My point is the sharks will probably be in the short term market right now, unless it's lehner, not interested in trading away a 1st.

i agree, trading a 1st would be a huge mistake. georgiev is still worth trading for. not a 1st of course.
