My point is I wouldn't make big trades with Toronto.

Also Engvall isn't meaningfully better than Paul. Both are 4th liners

He's quite a bit better. I watch both teams a lot. Engvall could play 3rd line in Ottawa. Don't forget Connor Brown was also a 4th liner in Toronto.

Not a similar situation to Brown at all. Brown was a dominant offensive talent at every level before for making the NHL, and he scored 20 goals as a rookie.

Playing with Auston Matthews. Engvall gets penalty kill minutes and no power play minutes. I don't think the Leafs want to move him at all.

Besides Jaros and a 4th round pick aren't exactly big pieces.

Plus Engvall will be an RFA whereas Paul will be a UFA.

I still have high hopes for my boy Jaros. Ottawa doesn't need anymore bottom 6 forwards. Ottawa is thin on the right side as it is with the only two possible top 4 D coming up being Thomson and JBD. Jaros slots in nicely behind those guys and would be a great offset partner to someone like Chabot or Wolanin. Sure Zub is coming, but he seems more like a low risk signing that can be traded for an asset down the road whereas Jaros seems to have more upside.

Problem is the organization doesn't seem to have much faith in him. He played well last year, but he took a back step this year. I like him, and do think he's a 3rd pair guy, but if he doesn't factor into long term plans, why not move him?

Also Zub is only 6 months older than Jaros and has been playing a much more prominent role in the KHL than Jaros was even in the AHL. Sounds like he might walk right into 2nd pair duties. I don't see anything to suggest he has less upside than Jaros. Probably has more upside if anything.

Nick Paul is RFA with arbitration rights and I bet he makes less than Engvall next season. Personally I prefer bottom 6 forwards who can score AND HIT so I'll keep Nick Paul thanks.

All I'm saying is that Engvall is better and younger than Paul so if the Sens wanted him they'd have to pay a lot more than Jaros whose likely an AHL player. I'm a Sens fan too but that's just the reality.

P.S. If he makes less than Engvall its not a long term deal and he will be a UFA after this contract. He can easily walk after 1 or 2 years and the Sens won't be competitors until then.

I think the Sens will be really good in 2-3 years but not before then.

You might be high on Jaros but that doesn't bring his trade value up. Jaros doesn't have much trade value. I'd keep him if I was Ottawa.

Engvall is worth about a 3rd round pick or more.

I agree with the 2 to 3 year projection (if the Sens don't screw it up). I also agree that it would take more than Jaros to get Engvall. But I honestly think it would benefit BOTH teams if it were to swap Engvall and Paul 1 for 1. (But OTT would likely need to sweeten it with a mid round pick or prospect due to the age difference). All of that aside, and I say this as a guy who's ALWAYS felt Nick Paul was an NHL player, with all the prospects and picks Ottawa has, in 2 or 3 years Paul might not be a lock in our line up anyway. I mean, Pinto, Balcers, Norris, L Brown, Formenton, Kastelilc, Abramov, Chlapik, Batherson, and a frightening number of high end picks over the next 2 drafts... Our bottom 6 will need to be extremely friendly contracts in order to pay our stars.
