With the strength of the Avs d prospects and the fact that Newhook will eventually take the 2nd line center spot from Kadri, this trade doesn't seem to be worth it for the Avs. Especially considering they'd still have Makar, Byram, Girard and Graves as young defenseman who are either in or gonna be in their lineup.

Best d prospect in NJ and like top 20 around the league, but not close to this value.

Ty Smith is a great defensive prospect, is a quick skater, good edges and high offensive instinct but I actually don't think his value is anything better, or perhaps even equal to, Alex Newhook alone. Newhook was just named Hockey East Rookie of the Year in the NCAA - he's playing with guys a fair bit older than him as well. Smith was an overager this year and, as with most defenders his age, has some cons when it comes to the defensive side of his game.

He's really good, quite underrated imo, I don't hear much about him, I wouldn't say he's the best d spec tho, Byram is a year younger, and a guy like Nils Lundkvist could compete for the spot as well

We were thrilled when he fell into our laps at 17 overall in the draft. Kid is going to be legit.
