Description
Similar to the brooks orpik situation you can’t trade a player to a team and have them CBO and resign them (vincent lecavalier to toronto) but you can have them bought out regularly and resigned (brooks orpik). To do this you have to compensate Ottawa well as it would be a high cap hit for the first few years then it would drop off to around 300,000. This is also why I took back Ryan and CBO by Toronto so Ottawa could take on another bad contract that would be sweetened to be CBO (Ottawa could really clean up). John Tavares yes is the captain of the leafs and doing this would look odd but he is a good team player and this would be very good for the leafs cap situation wise

Toronto would be penalized, Ottawa would refuse to do this from the start, and no way Tavares takes that contract

It is allowed you can’t punish them for doing something that is allowed in the CBA. Tavares would be making around 9 more million dollars than the contract that was bought out and still be with the leafs. He would 100% take that. Also in what world does Ottawa not want to they would not get punished because it is allowed under the CBA and they would get picks and prospects in return for space they are not going to use that would just be stupid not to do on their part

It’s still allowed under the CBA. Let’s say the NHL try’s to say no leafs would just take it to an independent arbitrator/court and 100% win because it is allowed under the CBA which is a legally binding contract. The NHL can’t just change it if they don’t like it as long as it’s not expired

The nhl isn’t going to allow cbos for teams to abuse it

Come on you think they won’t have strict guidelines in place if they grant teams a cbo

actually toronto could pretty much get away with something like this. On their management staff they have the guy who made the cap rules working for them so if any team can maneuver around the cap or cheat it so to speak its the leafs.

But I dont think it will look like this. Leafs would just use the cbo as leverage to get a depth defenseman out of a team (i.e. the islanders)

You think Tavares is going to waive his nmc And the sens are going to have a 10.9m dead cap space buyout on their books Bc why? Bc Bobby Ryan who also has a nmc and would t waive it to be bought out

No it’s 10,393,333 for 5 years then 303,000 cap hit and it only costs the sens 303,000 a year. The sens literally said they plan on being a cap team in 5 years right when the cap hit drop

Do you know how buyouts work in bonus heavy contract? That’s why it’s buyout proof. You still pay him almost his full contract haha it’s sad you actually think the sens would pay 55m out of the 66m left on his contact in actual dollars just to get stuck with a 11m dead cap hit

You have to be trolling there is no way you are this naive

You are right about I thing I forgot about the bonus but you can always do it after July 1 (when ever they do it this year) that knocks of 15,900,000 off. Using cap space that they are not going to use other wise and get picks and prospects out of it is a good idea

Buyouts Outside of the Regular Period
Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.

you honestly dont understand. CBO and normal buyouts will be the same period, dear lord how hard is to follow.
CBO, Normal Buyout, Tavares Signing bonus...all before the new NHL calendar year of July 1st. Your whole logic is as flawed in every which way, never mind you thinking 2 guys waiving their NMC just to be bought out

    You are a delusional one
