Barzal and the Islanders struggle to come to terms on a contract as Barzal wants more than his numbers the last two seasons suggest. Barzal wants to play for a less defensive team and Montreal threatens to offer sheet for Barzal. The stars align.

That’s a weak offer that the NYI easily say no to.

Get real those pieces don't net you Matthew Barzal, And for the last time Cam Fowlers 4 team trade list says hell no to Montreal. There's 0% chance of Montreal being one of the 4 teams he'd waive to. Doubt he has any desire to play in Canada period.

lol barzal is going to get paid by the islanders. They are not letting barzal go when they have to fill seats at their new arena.

Lol saying that KK Domi and a first isnt quality shows your lack of knowledge... This trade is as terrible for MTL as the Lecavalier trade that almost happened in 2008 in which MTL was giving away Price, Subban and Pacioretty. Just terrible

In what world is this trade terrible for Montreal?? JK isn’t gonna be a first liner, probably a 3C or 2C at best, domi is good, but his 70 point year is an outlier. Montreal’s pick wouldn’t even be top 10 if they acquired barzel. He’d put up 80 points and be the best centre this team has had in decades.

KK had a better 18 yo season than both Kakko and Hughes... He was a ppg in the AHL and the reason he didnt stay in the NHL this year was because of his injuries and lack of strenght. He's a 1C or sure 2C in the making. He's 19 ffs, give him time. Barzal wasnt even in the NHL at that age

KK was a bad pick then it and still looks like a bad pick now. He doesn’t have the offensive output of a true first line centre. KK isn’t nearly at the skill level of Hughes or Kakko despite his rookie year.

WTF. Youre not even a MTL fan... How can you be so sure about your statement that he doesnt have any great skills... His shot is elite, his vision is amazing (just watch some highlights from this year in the AHL and his draft year) and he's got really great hands. Just wait 2 more years at least before saying a 3rd OA is a bust. Most stars in the NHL werent even playing in the NHL at 18-19 yo.

Wings not taking on 2 more years of Alzner for anything less than a 1st.

Those picks are a high 2nd and a 3rd and 4th. Why would they accept that when the cap is not going up? Their cap space is more valuable then that.

You’re right I don’t watch him much, but I have friends who are die hard Montreal fans and are disappointed with that pick. His shot certainly isn’t elite level. Not even close. He’s got good vision I’ll give u that. I didn’t call him a bust, I just said he’s not gonna be an elite forward.

I like the Barzal trade and think its a pretty good representation of what he is worth. Domi out scored Barzal last year and will have a much lower cap hit when resigned. Given the current cap situation and the addition of KK and a 1st.

I really don’t understand how everyone is saying it’s bad for NYI. If Barzal and NYI can’t come to terms, this is likely the best offer they’ll get and they should take it in a heartbeat. The Ducks do that trade too

11m for Barzel is too much. Isles don't match, but they don't take that deal either. Take 4 first rounders and spend 8 million they have allotted for Barzel on other players.
Do Montreal fans really think Montreal is on Fowler in "trade me to teams". That nonsense has should stop
