A crazy overpay for Barrie for what he contributes as an NHL Dman.

Barrie is not a top 4 Dman (whatever that means). Leafs were depleted on defence due to injuries last season, did not use the Barrie on the PK last season. Barrie is poor at even strength. He just doesn't defend. He's good on the PP. If that's your definition of a top 4 Dman and worth of 6m...go for it. IMO Barrie was the worse Leaf Dman last year.

Agreed, he's a guy you want getting sheltered 5-on-5 minutes and a tonne of PP time. I wouldn't pay $6M for him. His offensive numbers are impressive, but his defensive game is atrocious and he's going to cost more goals than he creates.



Why? Lindholm - Manson, Fowler - Gudbranson is a solid top 4. We need a young top pairing RHD or prospect with that kind of potential and/or an experienced bottom pairing RHD and PP specialist.

Gudbransson is trash.

He was in VAN, but he wasn't that bad in PIT and has been solid in ANA. I suspect this is because his value has dropped every time he's been traded and so the team's demands on him get lower and lower. Essentially, he wasn't bought into the ANA as a former 4OA pick and expected to carry his pairing. RD really wasn't the problem with the team this season. Literally no offensive creativity whatsoever. Not enough elite talent at every position except GT, but especially at forward.
