Byfuglien PTO

Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 18 avr. 2020
Publié: 18 avr. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
If Byfuglien wants to play again the Leafs are a perfect fit. A PTO would ensure that he'll only be signed if he can play at an NHL level. If he can't, play Liljegren or a depth RHD

I highly doubt he’ll play again. Who leaves 14 million on the table? He had no problem with Winnipeg, hes just lost the will of the brutal 8 month grind every year of being an NHL hockey player

I know it's AGM and it's all about a pie in the sky mentality, but people hopefully understand that in reality based on what we know has transpired thus far, Buff is not playing pro hockey again.
He gave up $14 million to leave a good situation where the staff/city supported him (and before you **** on WPG as a city, Buff is from MIN which is a similar lifestyle to WPG where the fishing is good and the cold doesn't bother him). He's got a family with kids to take care of, $65+ million earned, a Stanley Cup ring and has had a long successful career. He's had surgery on his ankle and he still felt that he couldn't play. So he's now a 35 year old man with a recently reconstructed ankle that still isn't 100%, supporting a 250lb+ body that hasn't played hockey in 12 months as of now (who knows how long until hockey is back) and he's going to sign in Toronto to play under the microscope of the maple leafs media for $700k?
Just stop the madness. He's going to retire. Coming from a Jets fan who harbours zero resentment to the big man despite how it all ended, let's just leave the man alone to enjoy the rest of his life. Please.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Stop it Leafs fans. Leafs are not entitled to every RHD, just to fulfill your fantasy roster.
Why not sign Bob Baun?

Bufyuglien is like the most anti-media player in the league. No chance he would ever play for Toronto for that little dough.

Let’s talk about what transpired. The team and player had a dispute over an injury and where it occurred. The team chose not to pay the player and the player issued a complaint to get paid. The settlement was a contract termination. So the player who wanted his $14M decided he no longer wanted it and just wanted a contract termination to retire? He wants to play again. He just doesn’t want to play in WPG after this situation. Hence why he agreed to the contract termination and not filing retirement paperwork. I believe he’s also eligible for the bonus contract like Perry. 35+, missed a majority of the previous season. I bet when next season starts he’s on a team.

If you listen to the Cheveldayoff timeline of it (coming from a bias standpoint, yes) there was some fiction that became attached to it due to the anonymity of the details that were allowed to be shared. And because it was being sorted out between the NHL and the NHLPA those details could not be shared, until just yesterday.
But I guess all we can do is wait and see.
