Who do you intend to play with Rielly? Kerfoot is overpaid, poor defensively, poor face off stats and takes a ton of penalties. You have to cut somewhere to get some defenders.

As we saw this year, a few injuries gutted our defense. This gives us more flexability

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1707682. Lol we can do that

When was Kerfoot overpaid. A consistent 40 point player. Poor defensively. He is actually really good on defense? Takes penalties? Poor faceoff stats.
Clearly you have never looked at the leafs team. And your new so it is understandable you don't know much

He's pacing for 35 points this year after not getting premier PP time like he had on Colorado. Look back to Colorado fans after the trade and they were very happy to be rid of Kerfoot. He has taken the most penalties as a forward on the Leafs with some of the lowest Average Ice time. Take a look here -- https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/TOR/. He has a 46.9% win rate on faceoffs where every other Leaf Center is over 50%.

On to your roster, off the start, we acquire a puck moving defenseman and pair him with Rielly? Seem familar (Tyson Barrie). Next, You place Dermott as a top 4 on the RIGHT side when he hasn't proven he can even play LHD Top 4. So your solution is to replace Tyson Barrie with a similar player and make no other changes to the Leafs defense. I can't see how that doesn't have disaster written all over it. I've been following the Leafs for 15+ years now & contribute regularily on Hfboards & the Leafs Reddit. Your roster is atrocious.

Although I like your work in analyzing Kerfoot, the trade with the Islanders is lopsided. Johnsson is an undersized, overpaid, bottom roster player coming off a serious injury, and NYI are in the same league as Toronto, thus they are also in a cap squeeze. Why would they take on 2 million extra in cap, give up 3rd round pick in a deep draft year, and a serviceable RHD that has term and low cost remaining, just to get Johnsson? You analyzed Kerfoot pretty good, and he is better than Johnsson.
