probably bc they wont be able or plan to to keep him after the Scandella extension they have 5 Dman making a combined 18.5m and still need to give Dunn a new contract.

The worrying is ridiculous. The Scandella signing ($3.75) is a mere wash with him taking over for Jbou's $3.25. It will have zero effect on if Petro resigns.

Yeah I think the Scandella signing just means Bouwmeester probably isn't coming back next year

The worry is how they will afford his cap hit. The above roster is this season so its without Scandella and Faulks raises and without Vince Dunns new deal (he'll get a 3-4 million raise as well). There just isnt room to fit Pietrangelo even if he doesnt get a raise from his 6 mil.

But that also isn't taking into consideration of trades to open cap space. Bozak/Allen are potential trade targets that would benefit other teams and it would certainly allow us to easily afford Petro and Dunn.

You can't just look at Jbo for Scandella... You have to consider their whole cap situation.... Faulk, Schenn, Blais, and Dunn all getting raises. So the money given to Scandella was needed for Petro, yes.

Again you're only calculating the additions and raises, not the potential for subtraction via trade market. Allen was showcased all season, he's not staying with the team.

With Bozak's salary for his production hes going to cost you to move out and with a NTC to deal with thats not going to be an easy trade to get done. Allen will get about half the space you'd need.

From a strategy point of view though that doesnt make much sense at all. You'd want to wait on signing a defense dman like Scandella until you had already moved Allen and/or Bozak so you arnt making life difficult for yourself and limiting your returns. Now St Louis is a team that desperately needs to move out cap space and NHL teams dont do each other favors, they will only throw you anchors.

I don't think a 34-35 yr old would be too offended to help a club move his contract to potentially extend his playing career. I think there would be more suitors for Bozak's services than believed, especially if a mid round pick is attached.

Habs would take Allen. I would do Lindgren ($750K) for Allen with a conditional pick involved based on allen resigning with MTL and not getting drafted in the expansion draft.

At the trade deadline maybe but not during the summer if you arnt eating part of that 5 mil cap hit. It would cost more than a mid round pick. I also wouldn't say he'd be willing to help out. St Louis are defending cup champs and were a real threat to repeat. Noones going to make it easy on them to move them out to another team.

There would be no reason to move them at the deadline. They would have to be summer deals, when they'd be more appealing to teams. Teams desperate for talent are always listening to deals, especially when they can receive additional compensation in draft picks. 100% all day that is happening.

You're making it out to be worse than it is with Bozak, he plays center and there's tons of teams looking for centers, he was on pace for 35 points and there's teams paying more then what he's making to guys producing much less, they could move him without retaining and wouldn't have to add a sweetener either, his trade protection could be an issue though.

Moving Allen is no problem, but you'd have to move Bozak or Steen as well. Not "easy"

Well I can assure you Steen isn't going anywhere. However, Bozak will be easier to move than people seem to believe. There's several teams he can go to and instantly be their 2C. He's still producing at his age, wins a ton of faceoffs and plays solid PK minutes.

Word on the street is Botterill will trade for Bozak and Allen if StL will take back premium picks and/or prospects. Maybe even take Faulk off your hands...
