Description
Someone’s getting petro, why not us? The only issue is he might not want to come to Winnipeg unless something crazy happens in the playoffs (if they resume) and the jets win a cup

The "somebody" is St. Louis...

Why is everyone panicking?? Armstrong is not letting AP walk into UFA.... Allen and Bozak will be traded and Steen is going to retire after this year... there's plenty of space to give AP 8.5-9m per year

You are talking as if you have been to the future already. It is far from easy to move that much cap, and we have no clue what steen will do.
There is rightful panic, but i agree that STL has not thrown in the towel at bringing him back.

No one in their right mind is going to give any player that amount given the current status of the league. Looks like Petro won't be playing hockey next year then lol. There's too much uncertainty with the cap status to be throwing around bloated mega contracts.

Pietrangelo isn't leaving St. Louis, wouldn't be surprised if this shift due to the virus will have Pietrangelo willing to take something in the $8.5-9 range in exchange for a lot of term and Armstrong will do it.

Players are simply going to have to change their expectations, can see some guys leaving a few $$ on the table in exchange for some term/security, AP seems like one of those guys.

The Jets need to sign Demelo, a couple depth dmen like Beaulieu and Sbisa and figure out which of Niku, Heinola and Samberg are making the team and which are going to the AHL. As good as Pietrangelo is chasing him would just be a waste of time for Chevy, he'd just be using him as leverage to get more money out of the Blues.

It's not hard in all honesty.

Steen is 36 and has 1 year left with a cap hit of 5.75m. The salary though is only 3.5m next season. He's already made over 50+ million dollars. He loves living in the city of St. Louis and it's extremely easy seeing him taking a job with the organization. If Army sits down with him and is honest about the situation it makes sense that Steen would retire. It's just as much about the roster spot next season as it is the cap.

Bozak just turned 34 and like Steen only has 1 year left on his deal. There's plenty of teams that would love to have Bozak as a 3C and with only 1 year left on his contract. He will be slightly overpaid at 5m but it's 1 year so teams aren't scared of that contract.

Allen will turn 30 in August. Just like the other two Allen only has 1 year left on a 4.35m deal. Plenty of teams could use his services, especially for 1 year.

If you want to say that moving 15m is hard to do in a generic sense I would agree. You have to look at the details though and I don't see how moving all 3 guys is hard at all.

Yeah what sweeteners is Armstrong going to add to rid himself of Allen and Bozak? No GM in their right minds are going to help St Louis with their cap situation without adding picks/Prospects to move those contracts.

I wouldn't sign Petro if it was me.
He's gonna ask 7 years. That contract will run till he's 37. I don't like those odds.
For a 30 year old player the most I would do is 4 years. Especially on a large number deal.
Sit back relax and wait for some other idiot to make a mistake.
