I don't see Buf passing on Lundell if he's sitting there at 8th.

he's 24 year old goalie that was in the ECHL last year... lol

Here's an easy primer on trading draft picks.

https://www.broadstreethockey.com/2013/4/25/4262594/nhl-draft-pick-value-trading-up

Long story short. 8th + 38 has the same exact value as 13 + 23.

As a pick swap it's interesting.

The player swap is 100% trash.

Also I doubt the Rangers move up. There's really not much drop off in player value at all from pick 8->13 in this draft. Especially if teams start reaching. I think as a pick swap the Rangers probably consider it if someone like Raymond or Rossi is still on the board at 8.

Thank you for posting the link with the draft pick value trading up. Regardless of the chart if a GM wants to draft a player bad enough, they'll go off the chart to get them. But with the chart, one is able to see how far off the chart the GM went. For example when Gorton / Clarke moved up 4 spots in the 1st round to draft K'Andre Miller.

According to the chart NYR should have traded a mid 3rd round pick rather than a mid 2nd round to move up only 4 spots. It seems OTT was like chart or no chart, the price to move up to our draft position is a 2nd round pick - take it or leave it. And the Rangers took it. So sometimes if a GM wants to draft a player bad enough, they'll go off the charts to get them.

Great posting! Moving up in the draft is an option I'm sure Gorton will constantly keep an eye on throughout the entire draft. But maybe if you throw Lundkvist in with Georgiev and the two 1st round picks, maybe NYR could move up to 4 or 3.

Have to totally agree with you on this one. The players involved ruin the equity in the trade, but I like the idea of using those two picks to move up if Rossi or one of the Swedes are still there and the opportunity is there.

Or I’d keep the pick, take Zary or Mercer and use the other pick in a package to try to get Cirelli or similar.

Personally, having the 8th overall pick would be much more beneficial to Buffalo than doing this trade. Georgiev is good but honestly a backup goalie is the least of our concerns. If there is a way to swing the 8th OA and one of Thompson/Asplund for Strome and the 14th I'm game

so i dont really seee it the same as you
i view it as
8th <=14th + 23rd
2nd rounder + Johansson+ Thompson >= Andersson + Georgiev

also Johansson was a top 5 goalie in AHL this year so not the ECHL player you are trying to push

strome is having a career year, don't jump the gun on him he is just an avg player and not worth dropping big draft capital.

edit. Georgiev would be in a 1a 1b sinario where they split games. team easily has 5-10 games lost early because of bad goaltending

I think Lundkvist has NMC and want s to retire a NYR so unlikely he moves. that's why i sent Johansson over as he could still develop in AHL for a year them come up and back up the young stud Shesterkin.
I do think rangers are going to try and do a push soon as don't need much more to be contenders.

I like Lundell and am completely ok with that, tho was just trying to see if we could plug a few more holes on the roster.
also i think Seth Jarvis and Jan Myšák are going to be the steals of the draft

I agree regarding Lundqvist. Rangers might trade Georgiev if a team sees him as their number 1 goalie of the future and offers a lot in trade. Then Lundqvist become the backup for probably as long as he feels like being in the league.

As for the draft I could see Gorton trying to move to the top of the draft using as you suggested Georgiev, their two 1st round picks, and also Nils Lundkvist.

Can’t think of a team that needs a goalie less than the Rangers.

Also 14 + 23 >>>>>>>>>>>> 8.

The pick necessary to move from 14 to 8 is like 38.

So 14 + 38 = 8

Ya Hutton is the problem, not Ullmark. Give Ullmark 50 games and get a better backup

lol if NYR move Georgiev and Lundqvist retiers at end of next season you would 100% need a backup.
that is an incredibly plausible scenario btw.

nyr moved up from 26 to 22 and added the 48th pick to even it up in 2018
but this trade is moving into top 10 picks and a bigger gap between picks so laughable that its only worth a 2nd to some people on here
