There are probably some cash poor teams that Toronto could possibly take advantage of, but not to that extent, and Certainly not the New York Rangers.

if there is going to be a CBO why not just use a team with many bad contracts (islanders) and grab a depth defenseman from them (mayfield) in exchange for cbo that bad contract (ladd or boychuck) in return for mayfield toronto gives a 4th rnd pick

was thinking that too. Was using NYR as an example for a team that wants to move an unecessary contract

you'll be surprised at the teams like Arizona, Carolina, Florida that won't want to pay upfront cash

yep Barzel wont be cheap to resign (8.5-10mill+) so boychuck and ladd will need to go. The islanders can easily replace mayfield and toronto gets a good tough partner for sandin

Mayfield can play 20 minutes a night like he did this year, you put him with Rielly as a shut down D for cheap and bring Liljegren to split time with Marincin/Rosen/whoever else

There's a scenario where it could be worth it. Say the Sharks want to Buy out one of Vlasic or Jones. Say they still want to keep Vlasic, but his contract is an issue (it is). They could CBO Jones, if Toronto is then the team who buys out Vlasic, San Jose would then be able to re-sign him at a more reasonable price. That could be worth something to them.

Zero chance Edmonton does that. Same with NYR. Won’t cost a first. Rest looks fine

i can see that happening, but the plan most leaf fans see is bringing mayfield in but he will be with dermott. The plan for rielly is to move kerfoot dermott to florida for wallmark and weegar. If u look at most leaf trades this is the proposed idea now. still if weegar does not work with rielly mayfield can take his place weegar goes with muzzin and holl with sandin

If there's a CBO why wouldn't we just use it on Hank and NOT give up a first rounder?

If the team doesn’t want to pay cash up front then they won’t be able to make cash on the back end by being a a competitive team and getting bodies to the arena. Trading high value assets does nothing but lose money for teams.

Not a first IMO. Id do some other deal like a second and a prospect, but Jones contract is gone in a few years

I agree that a 1st is steep, considering they don't have to bear any actual burden in terms of cap. But it's still a lot of real money and it's worth something, I'm not sure what though.

Jones is contract is long enough to be a problem. It's hard to hide a goalie that bad. If Sharks get a CBO, Jones is gone.

Id say Vlasic first. We have him for 7 years at 7 mil which is going to become a huge issue

I'd agree that Vlasic's is a worse contract, but Jones might be more damaging to the Sharks.

If RHD Roy is NHL capable, the Leafs don't get him and those two pick for Dermot. With so many teams cap strapped, Johnson doesn't get traded for good picks and no cap coming back to the Leafs. Lundqvist refuses to waive his NMC, just be to be bought out.

Rod. In this Covid time, of isolation and very limited social contact it is so important to have "a friend with benefits"
