Description

Let's say the owner did want 10 million taken off of the possible 85 million projected cap for next year (prior to Covid 19 stoppage).
I as a player would see this as a lack of commitment to winning.
So since Barkov only has 2 years remaining on his contract he could demand a trade and Panthers would be in a tight spot.
I modeled this trade after the Taylor Hall trade, but maybe it's not the right trade to model it after.

Barkov is worth at least twice as much as Hall. He's an elite level 2-way Center who's 5 years younger on one of the 5 best value contracts in the entire league. You could add two more 1st rounders and FLA still declines easily. FLA would just abstain from the UFA market in order to be compliant under your cap guidelines. They'd much rather lose Hoffman and Dadonov instead of Barkov.

You realize Barkov is on a sweetheart contract right? hes a top 10 center in the league, probably #6. I don't even know a single player you are offering for him but a quick search says Firstov is the best of the 3 prospects and projects to be at best a 3rd liner right now. Barkov is the type of player you build a franchise around. This offer is insulting. You want Barkov it will cost you no less then this:

Problem with trading Barkov is that you don't have a 1C unless you go with a trio of Huberdeau Hoffman and Dadonov, where one of them plays C

The return for Hall was fine, Hall is a 28 year old rental. Barkov is 24, has 3 years left of term and is a more complete player. Also Barkov is a center and Hall isnt. The entire premise of your offer is flawed.

Shero had a disastrous season. He should be banned for life. He never even offered Hall a contract extension! Why not? Devils fans deserved better.

This Barkov trade is a failure. He's a TOP10, possibly even TOP5 C in the world with term and very cheap contract.

Everything offered for FLA in this move should be doubled, and even then they'd quite easily decline it.

Read it before commenting. This trade is based on the Hall trade which I do not believe to be adequate, I simply used it as a starting point and would like other trades that would serve as a better model.
