Description
The Jackets will likely do little this offseason. Jarmo is content on letting the youngsters carve out their spot. Anderson will be resigned to a one year deal but he will likely wait to sign long term until after next season and the expansion draft. The Jackets will move Korpisalo for something. I think there will be quite the market for him but it is very hard to predict it considering there are a lot of unknowns about this offseason.

Note: trade isn't to Anaheim. It could be any team

Columbus has a good thing going. As much as I like Kivlenieks, I would try and find a way to hold on to Korpisalo. Also I don't think Merzlikins gets that much. Both I would say would get shorter term 2.5-3 M contracts

IMO, CBJ should and will keep both Korpi & Elvis, at least another couple years.
The 19/20 season was so disjointed, with so many injuries to both skaters as well as both goalies.
Neither G could get a rhythm, and based on the injury situation it would benefit the Jackets to keep both in the fold, on moderate contracts of 2-3 years and $2M-$3M each, to continue to develop and fight it out for the starting job. 41 games a year is a fair amount of work, and both should keep sharp by regularly playing games every week. By the time their contracts are up in a couple years, the Jackets could trade 1 of them for assets and keep the one they decide is the goalie of the future.

I think Howard retires after this season, Depending on how the UFA goalie market goes for Detroit. I could see them interesting in one of Georgiev, Murray or Korpisalo

It won't happen, because the Jackets have team control AND cap space.
They will match any offer for PLD, and make it clear to everyone in the league that they will keep him.
GM's are not stupid enough (well I don't know about MB, but most won't) to offer sheet a player knowing they will not get him, only to artificially drive up the cost.
If he does, he would probably receive a CODE RED from the other GM's at the next spring GM meetings in FLA

I don't think he's saying CBJ wouldn't match, I think he's saying PLD would probably sign a offer sheet to guarantee the better deal for himself, which CBJ would match, so he'd be getting more money than the $6.5mil x 6 on here.

And all they have to do is bargain with Seattle to not take a goalie

Actually Korpi and Kivlenieks are the only 2 that are exposed. Elvis does not meet the eligibility requirements.
Go to Interactive / Seattle Expansion Mock Simulator to see each team's exposure list.

Wouldn’t he be eligible tho? He won’t be under an ELC anymore come next season.

He wasn’t ELC this season. He Signed his ELC mid season last year and it was a 1 year contract.

This is pretty good. Personally I’d rather see Anderson moved as I don’t think he’s worth the 4 mil. The only want to get PLD at that price is to get him signed now and I don’t think that’s going to happen. Also as other comments have said, I’d try to keep Korpisalo and Merzlinkins if you could.

The problem with OS's is they generally have to do more with the ownership financials than anything else. The only reason MB OS Aho was because they felt that because the way the contract was structured, Dundon may not want to pay that much money right away. Obviously they under shot because we all could tell it was a fair deal for Waddell to sign him for.

No one really understands the owners financials so its purely a guessing game but these tend to work when they are predatory in nature. Meaning if there is sent that an owner is having some troubles with his cashflow, the market the player is in isn't a high selling one, team's salary cap constrictions, etc, then that's when a rich team may try to pounce. If it is a half asses attempt like MB's on Aho then yeah ownership will decide to just take the brunt of the cost now in order to keep the player but if its one of those four 1st rounder OS's......especially if it is max bonus and loaded up front, even millionaires have a hard time swallowing 30-40 mil in a 2-3 year time frame. Some times they have their money tied up in other things which makes finding a way to borrow the money almost not even worth it anymore.

Its tricky. I think if Montreal goes all in on PLD and ownership in Columbus is as I expected, this could happen.

The code red thing is blown out of proportion. There is already some contempt between the GM's relationships due to trade talks that this will only adds to it. I don't think Dorion was very happy with the way Wilson traded for Hoffman and then traded him right away again for a better return minutes later...... OS another teams player only opens you up to being OS back. If a team is smart there isn't much they have to worry about.

I'd keep Korpisalo. Having 2 good goalies is always great to have. Look at the Rangers. They have 2 really good young goalies and in the long run it will make them a better team.

Korpisalo wants to start. Simple as that. I don't think he is wanting to share the net with Elvis. Elvis has clearly outplayed Korpi. To keep Korpi, even if he were to agree to a contract, would tie up cap space. At best Korpi would sign the one year deal but would become an UFA next summer and lose him for nothing. Jarmo is not going to let that happen. Plus, the cap is likely to stay stagnant or go down, this gives Jarmo the upper hand on teams looking for cheaper starting goaltender options. I don't see anyway Korpi is back next season.
