Not going to lie, I was just about to compare Yama to Arvidsson because they are almost already the same players, but I looked at player comparables during his draft year and he was our little Gaudreau. Bouchard can definitely be John Carlson, but I went with Parayko because of playing size and similarities. Broberg has some of the best skating but point production isn't elite, I'm thinking of Broberg being Hampus Lindholm 2.0 due to his stamina, not sure about the Klingberg comparison. Bear is likely to be Spurgeon/Barrie
(edit: Tyler Benson has astonishing passing skills but lacks in other areas)

Broberg is still 18 getting like 10 minutes in the SHL, you can’t expect offense when the guy doesn’t get played.

Parayko is one of the best defensive Dmen in the league - Bouchard struggles defensively but he’s elite offensively, especially on the pp.

Doesn't defensive game get developed with time. Defensive d men don't pan out immediately and take a while to develop. Tell me some good rookie defensive dmen you have witnessed. Bouchard has the size to become pretty defensive but he looks pretty shy to do that

Pretty sold on the 1st rounders but you're right for player picked in later rounds. Bouchard may be slow, but Broberg is already playing with old men and good. Yamamoto already a PPG player

His defensive instincts just aren’t good. He can improve defensively , but he’ll be known for his ability to get the puck up ice and QB the 1st powerplay unit. He’s comparable to guys like John carlsson and Brent Burns

Dobson, fox , and Hughes have been solid defensively

1st rounders are 63% roughly.
2nd rounders about 25%
3rds 12%
it gets progressively worse from there.
Hard to judge Yamamoto 20 some games isn't a large enough sample size. Players like Donato looked good in 1st small samples...then reality kicked in.

Anything can happen being the point. Don't count your eggs before they hatch.
Don't get me wrong, good players should always at least get their chance. But comparing them to Parayko is really pushing it.

He does struggle defensively as he is slow to cover his man but with another year in the Ahl he can surely improve but his shot is wicked

That’s always boggled my mind. There’s highly touted players in lesser leagues and they just don’t get played the kinda minutes they need. That’s why the Kings signed Bjornfot and played him in Ontario so they could control his development. I think that’s the way to go with the high potential kids.

No on Broberg, his offensive production is fine for an SHL d man, but you can't be close to Lindholm (or Parayko) with his current hockey IQ (yes that can be coached... But it needs a LOT of work)

Marino as well, though he's older

His offense as an 18-year-old was better then Klefbom's.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the comp either. I'm a fan of both players, I just don't see a lot of similarities.

Spurgeon I can see, or Ryan Ellis, but not Barrie. Barrie isn't able to play above 3rd pairing effectively because he isn't good defensively. Bear played 1st pairing comp all year as a rookie. That's a pretty huge gulf already.

Two of the 6 are already on the roster, and Bouchard is a lock to play a significant number of games next year. That's half right there.

And scouts all seem to agree that Broberg has an NHL top-4 floor, where they disagree is his ceiling. It's pretty safe to say he's a lock for an NHL career... Benson got some games this year and did okay, neither he nor McLeod is expected to start in the NHL out of training camp and neither is a lock for a 100+ game NHL career. But then, McLeod isn't one of the top-6 Oilers prospects, either. Pronman's rankings last fall along with my comments:

1. Broberg - going back to SHL for another year
2. Bouchard - NHL ready
3. Samorukov - needs another year in the AHL
4. Benson - got his cup of coffee this season, will get more games next
5. Lavoie - starting in the AHL this fall, will get at least a year if I know Holland
6. Yamamoto - took the NHL by storm this season
7. Jones - played 43 games this year, was one of the Oilers better defenders in the second half, even when playing 2nd pairing when Klefbom was injured
8. McLeod - will play some games next year, Oilers see him as a 3C in the near future rather than a top-6 guy
13. Bear - he shocked everyone, even Pronman. Played 1RHD from game 2 on (Larsson was injured in game 1)

Bouchard may be slow

He's not. This is a common misconception. He also registered as the second fastest skater backwards at the CHL skills testing combine in his draft year. He doesn't have a quick stride and he doesn't have elite edges, but he isn't slow.

I know where you're coming from, but the SHL's ability to develop world-class defensemen should never be questioned.
