No choice but to buyout Marner? They would probably buyout Anderson if they had to, Campbell is cheaper and is a decent goalie.

I even admitted that in the description. However, the Leafs cap situation is a mess for sure.

Yeah no. It's more likely TOR would trade Matthews for a 7th round pick that they'd consider buying Marner out, and do you know why? Because then they'd at least technically get something in the exchange.

Honestly, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander or Rielly are not going anywhere for the next handful of years. All other players are expendable, but not these 5.

I don’t know if buying out Andersen can be justified. Obviously he stunk this season but his cap hit is fairness unlike Marner.

Yeah Murray and Rodrigues aren't worth a potential #1 pick what a joke. And Marner would never sign a 2 x 9 deal from Pittsburgh both are purely laugh

If Marner gets bought out, then he has no leverage to get big money.

Andersen has one year in his contract, why would they buy out their number one guy because he had a down year. Leafs would be better off using their CBO in someone else and get a pick and specs for it as payment

Obviously this scenario is almost impossible, but what’d you think of this team? Would you sign Marner to this contract if he gets bought out?

Explain why Wings trade possibly 1st overall pick for your backup goaltender? Have you seen the goalies that will be F/A this offseason? With the cap being the same or less Wings could have their pick.

Well Murray has won 2 Stanley Cups as the starting goalie & is only 25. 2 bad seasons shouldn’t make him have no value. He still has elite potential.

He is the logical choice to move if they want to keep their big guns. They would never buyout Marner over Anderson if it came to it... are you going to dispute this?

They would never buy out their core (Marner Matthews Tavares Rielly Nylander) obviously. But it’s kind of a waster to buy out your STARTING goalie who is only signed for that season. The leafs can manage just fine with a flat cap, they simply need to make a few trades, no need to buy out a contract that’s not bad for the sake of buying out.

Agreed, didn't mean to make a choice of only those two I was just giving an example of a player they would buyout over Marner. The original poster made it sound like Marner was the only option.

Like I said, no one on this team really needs a buyout. Leafs should trade for someone to use it on and get picks and specs out of it

Obviously understanding the unlikeliness of this scenario, what’d you guys think of this team? Is it a contender?
