While that’s a bad trade for Vegas, it just depends how McPhee values Risto. His perceived value is higher than his on ice performance. Not saying it’s a “fair” trade but how many trades nowadays are? It’s certainly possible

If Vegas wants Buffalo to add picks or prospects I think they would.
Both Risto and Tuch are having bad years. Also Vegas has a good amount of forwards and incoming forwards (Glass, Krebs)
Nowadays anything is possible. Never expected the Henri Jokiharju trade

Not signing a mediocre goalie to a massive contract, destroying cap space for 5 years would be preferable

I would say his reputation in the nhl is better than it is on this site, and in real life, which is why he should be moved

I think he stinks. But you’re right his perceived value is high. That’s why I said this trade is possible. Vegas would lose, but bad trades happen all the time

An old school minded GM might value Ristolainen higher than most, but if it's a new school minded GM that loves to incorpotate analytics into the mix, Ristolainen won't have as much value to them.

Calgary's analytics guy strongly reccomended against a Ristolainen deal a couple years ago, and I can imagine many GM's and scouts have the same approach to him.

The problem with Ristolainen right now is that there isn't a trade partner out there with a need for RHD, and with a decent surplus of centers or RW's, that also hurts his value. The only team that makes sense right now in the league is Nashville IMO, and even then, I think you're talking Johansen in a deal for Ristolainen, you're talking Bonino as a centerpeice or young players and prospects.

The other issue is that there's a surplus of defenseman on the open market right now that could be had in trade, Minnesota has a couple that are tradable with Dumba and Brodin. Maybe you call Philly about Ghost. Jeff Petry could be had, and maybe if you pay enough, you can have Josh Manson or Brady Skeji, although less likely. Then in free agency, you have a lot of options as well.

So i'm thinking the value and return for Risto in this current market will be more underwhelming than what the Sabres think. And dont forget, Jason Botterill has already tried a million times to move Risto for that top 6 center or even winger. You know why it hasn't happend? Because he's not worth that straight up

I just have no desire to commit any kind of money to the goalie position, the skaters in front are so much more important. Not saying you can win with poor goaltending obviously, but the fat part of the curve for goalies is pretty big, grab somebody who can give you .915 on the cheap and for the love of god bring in guys that can score and prevent us from getting scored on.

I wouldn't say way more value. Right now, I think there are plenty of teams that would balk at trading for Tuch. The only thing about the Tuch- Risto value is that as of right now, Tuch is he's having a really tough year, and has six more years left for a player on pace for 15 goals this year, and is currently matching Ryan Reaves and William Carrier in offensive production right now

If i'm Vegas I wouldn't quite want to see Tuch dealt at his lowest value, and if im looking at Tuch, Im not sure I'd want to pay too much either. His value is in a tough spot, so I think he stays in Vegas. No GM is taking that deal right now unless he kicks his production back up to a 20-25 goal player. Ristolainen has shortfalls but he is still a guy who has been one of the more productive offensive defenseman in the league for the past for years, hits like a truck, is big and mobile. He may not have astronomical value, but he still has some value. It's just not Nikolaj Elhers, or Ryan Johansen value
