We would probably buy sutter out over moving him, especially if this is the cost to move.

Please explain to me how do you figure that Leafs is able to afford Jones?

I'm going to assume that they'll do this only to later use CBO on him.

Yeah, if there's a CBO, it's Loui. We can use a normal buyout on Sutter. It will cost about 2M on our cap.

one year, so the buyout spans two years. I think it's 1M against the cap on the 2nd year.

Certainly not worth trading a goalie of the future for ONE year either. Giving up nothing is far better than giving this much up.

We aren't convinced yet in Vancouver. Besides, why trade assets for nothing if we don't have to. If we can rid 2 M on a buyout and not drastically overpay to move this contract, then I am on board. This is an obscene overpay for a 4M contract, especially given True (or really any forward prospect) does nothing for our team.

I mean that's a fair point but you might lose Toffoli or Markstrom... by the way, would you prefer resigning Markstrom and possibly block Demko's development or letting Markstrom go and maybe sign a guy like Halak or Greiss or Khudobin to help Demko?

Goalies win cups. Very few teams that go all the way will look at their net and see an average goalie.

Therefore, I am on the Bring Markstrom back group. I don't think any of the three you mentioned are cup winning goalies. VAN is transitioning out of the rebuild into competition again.
However, I'm open to him being the Seattle claim. That way Demko will have more of an opportunity the year after. He simply is not ready for more responsibility yet.

Losing him for nothing is a bit rough ain't it? Don't make the same mistake FLA made with Marchessault... Markstrom and Demko could be in the top 5 best tandems in the league for 5-6 years

Technically we would be losing him for nothing by letting him walk now as well? I'd rather one year than zero years.

Also, Florida paid up Marchessault to get Smith's contract off. We wouldn't be sending anything extra here.

Markstrom's (and Anton) are very late-bloomers. Marky w/ a career .911 sv %-age, a losing NHL record, IS NOT the CUP guy either, and will not be claimed if US$5/6Mil is the contract that's floated by many ACGMs!!
