Right now, Montreal's biggest weakness is their lack of depth at LD. They have arguably 1 top-4 LD in their organization (Chiarot), and aside from Romanov they don't have another LD prospect that is remotely close to being NHL ready.

Lindell is a strong defensive presence on the blue line, a strong PK defenseman, and is still young enough that Montreal is getting most of his prime years. He's under control for the next 5 years as well, so they aren't just getting a rental out of him. He's a strong defensive piece to build a blue line around.

Dallas really doesn’t have the leverage to get any more from him either. He’s got the potential to be a really solid offensive defenseman, but he was so massively misused in Dallas. Personally, I’d love to keep him and he’d have been significantly better than Polak this year, but realistically Dallas has to move him for whatever they can get in return.

Appreciate it. Given their current situation, Lindell just made too much sense for Montreal. Obviously just a pipe dream, but given the Stars offensive deficiencies, I’d rather take Barrie into the expansion draft than Lindell.
