Puljujärvi, Jesse is a tricky one but maybe put him on a new team and he will do better who knows. Sure loosing Johnsson sucks but with that return I dont see why not. If Puljujarvi plays with Tavares and Nylander we may see a dramatic improvement in him. But I dont see Edmonton giving us a 1st as a condition. It should be just a 2nd.

Are we sure that Andreas Johnsson is any more than a 20 point player though?

He spent 76% of his Ice time with Auston Matthews this season and 50% of his ice time last season with Matthews. Not to mention he also spent 64% of his ice time with Nylander this year.

So if Johnsson is a 45 point player surrounded by guys like Matthews and Nylander, he's probably a 25 point player.

Or does this logic only get selectively applied when we're talking about Ryan Strome hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

What's actually really funny is that Andreas Johnsson put up 0.49 pts/gm next to Matthews and Nylander and Zach Kassian put up 0.58 pts/gm next to McDavid.

I like the trade. It gives EDM a good winger on a decent deal and the Leafs lose the cap and get a few maybes in return. I'm not sure that the Oilers agree to the condition though. Johnsson can score 50 points and that pick could still be like 12th overall or something. I'm pretty okay with just the second, but if there was going to be some condition to turn it into a 1st, it would have to be more playoffs based imo.

DeMelo will probably get more than that, but I don't object to the idea of trying to get him.

If Mikheyev makes $2m, I think it's for more than one year.

Yes. He's maintained his typical scoring pace regardless of who he's played with over the course of his career so far. He is what he's been, no more no less imo. 40ish point guy.

We should be happy with Puljujarvi or a third that elevates to a second for Johnsson, given the severity of his injury.

If DeMelo is worth recruiting, isn't he worth a 5-year contract for more $$$$$? Similarly, Mikheyev is worth more term and Clifford is worth more money.

He's literally never gone a year in the NHL without having Auston Matthews as a linemmate at least half the time he was on the ice....Thus he's never proven that he can score without elite linemmates.

Again, if you say that Johnsson is a 40 point guy, you're ALSO saying that Ryan Strome is a 70 point guy.

Pick your poison.

That's a more reasonable way to handle the pick condition. I think people need to pump the breaks just a little bit on DeMelo. I think he will/should make more than what's posted here, but I've seen some pretty crazy deals thrown out there for him. Mikheyev is an interesting case. With the injury, I think a one year deal makes sense for both sides, but if that's the way they go the money has to come down. I don't see Clifford being a Leaf next year. He's a bottom of the lineup guy who will probably ask for $2m, not to mention that if they re-sign him the pick involved in the trade upgrades.

This is unequivocally false. I'm also not sure what it has to do with anything. I don't remember ever voicing an opinion on here about Ryan Strome.

Actually he has. Last year he played without Matthews more often than he did. Not by much at ES but he still did. About 40% of his points that year were not involved in any way with the 'big 4', which, as a rate, is better than the time spent with them. He is what he has been.

No one is talking about point % we're talking about Time....

Johnsson spent 422 mins on the ice with Matthews. 443 mins without him.

What's amazing is over his ENTIRE career. Johnsson has spent a grand total 439 mins without Matthews/Marner/Nylander and 1510 with one of them. Or better said - he's spent 70% of his entire career on the ice with at least one top line player. That's insane.

And looking at how Johnsson has performed without those top line guys is concerning too. He's sporting a -3.91 CF% and a -7.92 xGF% or better expressed - he's basically played like Freddy Gauthier without elite linemates

he has had an injury prone year I dont see him as being a bad player no matter what line he is on. He could easily bounce back next year. Many players this year are having a bad season. Josh Anderson, Jankowski, but still they have potential to do better next year all they need to do is stay healthy and play to the best of their ability

Honestly think the Oilers are probably set for next year on the left wing, maybe with the exception of picking a winger in the draft. + considering what Holland was asking for Puljujarvi this season, this would be an easy no.

because a 150-200 mins sample is not statistically significant.

Your argument is akin to saying Kailer Yammamoto is a 70 pt player based off of his performance this year...

Without the injury he would be getting north of 4 million. He was having a better season than Kapanen, Johnsson or Kerfoot when they signed their deals. Also the injury wasn't his fault and shouldn't affect his level of play. A 1 year deal is better than a 2 year deal because it keeps him an RFA.

I'd like to find out how good he actually is, the only way that's going to happen is if he gets moved down the lineup or out of Toronto....

But his performance away from Toronto's top guys has not been good by any measure.

On the other hand. Josh Anderson's analytics look good, he just mostly had some bad luck this year.

Jankowski has never actually been good offensively...

He wouldn't be getting above $4m based on 1 year, imo. A one year deal doesn't buy any UFA years, therefore they are cheaper.
