The BJs giving up four 1st round picks for Mitch Marner would have ruined that team. They'd have been without their own 1st for five seasons. That will cripple even the greatest teams, and Columbus is certainly not one of the best teams.

Marner had no intention of ever leaving Toronto so you are right that it would never happened.

columbus originally made an offer to marner but he turned it down. The deal was supposedly 12mill for 7 years. Dubas should have let that happen as with those 4 1sts Toronto would have been able to make moves to buff up their defense. Or trade for a wing who could replace marner
