If you're moving Marner, wouldnt you want to get a much better D then Ekblad? Say a Werenski+ or maybe even Dumba+

well ekblad>dumba and werenski is a LHD, we need RHD. I don't think Florida even does it though because they need D as well so it'd have to be extremely tempting, and the two firsts make it not so tempting. Might be able to squeeze out ekblad and a first for him if Florida makes subsequent moves to address the d, which would be an absolute win for us.

I like the term that comes with Ekblad (5 years like Marner). Werenski would be good but he is a LHD which we have enough of. Dumba is a possibility as well.

Yeah if Ekblad, Barkov and or Huberdeau are dealt, It's because ownership is shedding salary not taking more on. So Ekblad for Marner isn't going to work. Florida is possibly looking at shedding salary not taking more on.

Idk I really like ekblad. A rock defensively and has been starting to find his game offensively this year. I think if Ekblad and a first were on the table for him, you take that and run with it

Why not get him as a UFA. I rather spend the money on a D than another forward. Not sure who they could get that would be a substantial improvement for under 5M.

Tanev would pair really well with Reilly. They have played well together before.

The key word there is salary. They want to cut real dollars, so the cap hit is less relevant for them. Marner's contract is heavily front loaded.

Because it's a waste of 5 million. Ekblad would also do extremely well with rielly and we know holl does very well with muzzin. Finding a 6th defenseman isnt hard to do, the majority of all nhl teams dont have good 6th defenseman anyways.

Maybe Thomson but not Bernard Docker. JBD is exactly the 2 way player that would make a perfect partner for Chabot or Brannstrom or even Wolanin

If they were to make this trade they would need to find a winger for Tavares. Kerfoot isnt good on the wing but is a great 3c so he should be there. They would be far better off with a winger then paying what should be a #4 defenseman 5 million when they already have a #4 who makes 2 million.
