i guess my thinking is just a different approach then yours to the same means.
i dont see why a team would keep a younger player down because of a vet who isnt keeping up.
its really just going to come down to training camp in my mind.
if Johansson looks like he took step forward and no change to hutton its pretty obv by now what i would do.
That’s fine... but it’s what would Botts do?
Not what would YOU do
I’m just telling ya what’s gonna happen in the real world
And it’s extremely rare that an unproven goalie who played poorly in the NHL is chosen to START the season over the established vet
And like i said...
when Ullmark was hurt, it was Hutton getting much more of the starts
GMs & coaches almost always give the Vet first chance
Johansson wasn’t a high pick who is seen as a potential #1 for us, so he won’t be “gifted” a spot like say Mittelstadt was
Let’s say we even have the normal 6 preseason games (which we probably won’t get)....
how many games will he even start?
Hutton will get at least 2 starts
So maybe Johansson gets 1 at most
He isn’t even gonna have an opportunity to prove he’s the better goalie in camp
Just like none of the kids really got a chance to “beat out” Larsson or Girgs or Okposo, Sobotka, etc etc etc
Lazar for example looked great in preseason last year,
and even he had to wait for injury to get called up
Look at the defense last year
Who got opportunities....
Pilut?
Or vets like Bogo, Scandella, etc?
We traded for blah vets like Frolik & Simmonds instead of letting kids play
It’s just the way it is in the NHL
I’d literally bet my house that Johansson doesn’t beat out Hutton to start the season
