Probably so he can be exposed in the expansion draft.

Because Seattle would select this guy? Imagine how many picks Anaheim needs to transfer to tempt them into selecting Durny. I can see them trading a high draft pick to make sure Seattle selects like a depth player or a youngster with bottom 6 potential. But not a goalie who looks like a potential AHL back-up

Nothing wrong with adding some depth/signing a young player. You can have okay stats in Juniors and turn out to be a good player in pro, opposite works also. Especially since it's a goaltender, they take more time to develop

Depth signing in case Ryan Miller decides to retire. He had a nice international junior career and could develop -- you never can tell with goalies.
