I think that's a bit too stiff of a read. The lineup is pretty flexible based on the progress of the prospects (Kakko, Chytil, K'andre, Lundkvist, Gauthier, Lias, Kravtsov, Dermott, etc). As those guys progress, they're able to be shuffled up and down the lineup as need be. Really wouldn't be surprised if one of K'andre or Lundkvist is able to make the team out of camp and step into a big role (like Fox last year).

The point of this roster is really about

A) allowing room for young players to grow into bigger roles (ie: not signing Strome and dealing Trouba/Staal to allow Chytil and K'andre/Lundkvist to move forward)
and
B) Fortifying the 4th line which has been a major weakness for the Rangers this year from their point of strength (D prospects)

LOL. that's massively changing the value. And as you said....the value is pretty close. If you wanna change the 7th to a 5th? then sure.

Strome is exactly the same. This gets you younger and saves salary you need

... but strome has chemistry with strome so I’d rather keep him over labanc

I think they're close but the main difference is Strome's positional flexibility. He can play C if one of Couture/Hertl go down again. Is he the best defensive C in the world? Not really, but neither is Max Domi. And he's actually a solid defender at the wing, which is why he can play the PK well and has done well in high leverage minutes. I think his game actually lends itself better to San Jose's possession style of play rather than New York's constant dump and chase....

staal isn't accepting a trade, he'll make more money being bought out. just get the idea of trading him out of your head.
