TB needs to move at least one, maybe two, of their $4-6M contracts to sign Sergachev and Cirelli this summer. Cernak is at risk of an offer sheet no matter what...

Would this deal work for both teams?

Johnson is a very solid forward who can play center and brings some useful experience. And he’s not old yet.

I wonder if OTT could make a deal like this for cheaper. TB would create about $8M in cap space with this move, while getting a depth dman back plus picks. The offer sheet comp for Cernak’s deal is just above the “2nd round pick” level...have to think that other teams might not be able to pay this price and take on this much cap.

Better chance they clone Gretzky and Lemieux in their prime and sign with OTT for 1M each than Johnson waiving his NTC for OTT.

not a chance in hell OTT is trading for a 29 YO player that is declining and signed for 4 more years at 5M...

TB will still need to move more salary out the door after the above deal just to sign Sergachev and Cirelli. The cap isn’t going to $85M next year.

These are good players, but the combination of Johnson, Gourde, Palat, and Killorn really puts TB in a tough spot this summer. They won’t get good value for guys. Teams aren’t going to pay great prices for any of the names mentioned.

And I don’t think TB can match an offer sheet for Cernak above $4M.

+ I’m just laying out a general framework for a potential deal here. OTT can certainly add another piece. I think these teams are well suited to a trade that benefits both sides.

People who are rejecting this out of hand just play too much EA NHL 2020. Theyre just looking at the trade bars and yelling about how its not "fair".

TBL is in a ****ing ****ty cap situation. It happens to every team in their window and theyre forced to make inopportune trades. I dont think this is outside the realm of possibility
