In this case 5 years is worse. Think about it, $4.6M in TB × 5 years is all it would take to match that contract in TB after factoring in taxes.

MTL needs to give him lots of money on a two year bridge deal. The 5 year contract is a steal for TB, it will pay off down the road. A 2 year contract worth $6.34M is a tougher pill to swallow, because he will want a raise in 2 years again. TB would have to move salary to match that, Sergachev either gets a really good bridge deal to stay in TB (if they match) or he gets a good deal in MTL. Either way it's a win for Sergachev.

Yea Montreal could probably offer like 8 mil at 2 year..... Tampa wouldnt match unless they trade one of there 5 mil players ....

If Julien Brisebois CBOs Yanni Gourde and can move Killorn that should help a little with Cirelli and Sergachev keep in mind the low taxes they might take a little less in Tampa on a bridge deal. Where other teams would've to vastly overpay them just because of their tax structure.

Or better yet, 2 years, lower term the better for Sergachev. Less term means he gets a raise sooner.

6.5 for 5 years and walk him into UFA
i just dont see TBL matching giving they got their top 4 LD signed until 2025 already at a high cap

If TBL matches we offer sheet Cirelli if he hasnt already been by DET (i see it happening as he would fix a lot of problems in DET for Stevie Y)

they cannot afford a long term deal for 1 let alone both
only way Cirelli and Sergy stay while leaving enough money to sign a 23 man roster is if both take 1-2 years deals to buy the team time to move players
even then they'd have to take less as TBL signed to many players to full NMC in exchange for taking less cap but that's now piled up

unless a big contract like lets say Johnson or Killorn agree to leave then these youth players are at risk
Its the cause and effect of the Kucherov and Point deals coming so close together

Sergachev in a 5 year contract in my opinion would probably be worth from 6.5 to 7.75 mill a year, depending on how much the habs want him back, most likely closer to 7.75, if it ends up going to to 7.75, I'd try to add another year on it

Sure,is Tampa offering 4.6 or are they offering 3.5? Your tax argument holds no wait if all Tampa is offering is 3.5 x 3, Habs show this offer and Serg signs now Tampa has to match the actual contract which they couldn't and they lose Serg for a 1st and a 3rd.

Or no more money after 2 years if he has a career ending injury. RFAs always want to get to UFA a 5 year deal walks him there, so ya the Russian would sign a 6x5 deal over a 4.6 x 3 in Tampa

I'm trying to say Sergachev won't sign an offersheet of 5 years @ $6.34M, the AAV is too low.

Not only that, but the offersheet should make it hard for the other team to sign. 5 years at @ $6.34M gets matched by TB instantly. They will move somebody to match that contract because it will be a great value contract 3 to 5 years from now.

A 2 year deal @ $6.34M is a little harder to match because his contract will be up again two years from now, at which point he will want more money or could be offersheeted again. Tampa is probably expecting to get Sergachev at 2 years × $4M. $6.34M would make things a lot harder for them, but if you are giving them term with the offersheet than it's a no brainer they will match.

Tampa ability to trade players or move out players is pretty difficult all the players that Tampa would like move have NTCs are TBH middle 6 forwards with 4/5 years left at 4/5 million - give 1 good reason any of those players will waive their NTC to not be in Tampa?

6.34 AAV is plenty for Sergachev and Tampa will have a very difficult time matching even with 1 compliance buyout - if the cap remains the same (likely) Tampa has about 6 million in space with 5 roster spots to fill plus Sergachev RFA Ciereli RFA and Cernak RFA. I get that in real dollars 4.6 in Tampa is the same take home as 6.34 in Montreal unfortunately if Sergachev signs an OS at 6.34 Tampa has to match that AAV. Plus there will be at least 6-8 teams that would give Sergachev that OS and a CBJ or Vegas or LA have pretty similar tax structures or Sergachev can keep his address in TB and still get the taxes back

Killorn NTC becomes a 16 team list July 1st this summer. He is 30 and coming off a 49 pt season in 67 games. Trading him and replacing his spot with an ELC would save TB ~$3.5M. He is the prime guy to trade. They already have to choose between Sergachev and Cirelli in my opinion (if they get offersheeted otherwise they could sign both @ ~$4M.)

There is no incentive to Sergachev signing 5 years with MTL @ $6.34M. Just sign 3 years @ $4.6M in TB, anything you sign afterwards in TB is a raise over MTL's offer. He would lose money with that offer in MTL.

Except 5 years walks him to FA where he gains full control of his career that is an incentive over a 3 year term and be left unprotected for the expansion draft cause of all the NTCs Tampa has to protect

Only NMC's have to be protected. Hedman and Stamkos. The rest do not. We will have to agree to disagree on the term arguement.

One thing I take away from this debate is TB is in a lot of trouble salary wise. Even if they move Killorn, they will have to choose between Sergachev and Cirelli if both recieve offersheets. I suspect Sergachev will have a lot more interest around the league.
