Would Staal waive for CBJ? Also would MIN be willing to add a lower end RHD?

Not sure if they're on his list or not, I believe he only has a 10-team no-trade list. I suppose it's possible Columbus is on it. I think we'd only be willing to add Savard if we moved Dumba. Savard would act as a placeholder while we let Addison, Mennell, and Belpedio develop to eventually compete for that 2nd pairing role. Maybe Columbus needs to add a little since Staal has proven he can still play well, but I wasn't sure what they'd even have to offer.

Tampa says no to that, it makes them significantly weaker up front while not giving them any cap relief it actually puts them in a bigger hole.

How does it put them in a bigger hole? Dumba makes $6M, Donato makes $1.9M and Mayhew makes $700k for a total of $8.6M. TJ makes $5M and it's safe to assume Cirelli will make over $3.6M... That would only help Tampa.

As for your other comment, Johnson wasn't anything special last year and Stammer can still play center to fill in for Cirelli. Yes, they'd lose some offense, but Tampa needs help on the right side and the point of making trades is to fill in holes by trading from positions of strength. That's exactly what they do here. They still have Kucherov, Point, Stamkos, and Killorn and they'd be able to give Raddysh, Donato, or Mayhew a legitimate shot in the top 6. Donato scored 14 goals in 62 games averaging 10 minutes a night for the Wild. He's a talented player, we just don't have room for him with Kaprizov and Parise and I think his game would be better served in the east. Mayhew may surprise in Tampa as well, he had 39 goals in 49 AHL games which is nothing to scoff at. I think he could be a 20 goal scorer in the right circumstances but like Donato we just don't have room for him with Fiala and Zuccarello.

Really? Dude Cirelli is an RFA so his contract is zero, Johnson is $5M you traded them more salary than went out giving them less space just in contracts signed. Why wouldn’t they just trade Johnson alone and sign Cirelli? Then what do they do with Sergachev? It’s a trade that doesn’t make sense for Tampa.

His contract is zero? I know Tampa fans are used to seeing under market value contracts, but this is a new low.. lol

His cap hit because he is an RFA WITHOUT A CONTRACT is zero. What’s so hard to understand by that?

arguing his cap hit is zero and Tampa is adding salary when clearly Cirelli will have a cap hit when he finally signs and it's reasonable to assume he'll want a good contract because he's earned it.

I argued they had less cap space than before. They haven’t signed him, they took back more cap space, hence they have less. I know in the land of 10 yr bull **** contracts the concept is foreign and all but what the hell. I mean is it really that hard of a concept to understand? UNTIL HE SIGNS A CONTRACT FOR THE 20-21 SEASON HIS CAP HIT IS ZERO. That’s called being a free agent.

And how many points do those zero $ RFAs put up? He'll sign a contract, which is what TanSor's point was. That contract will carry more cost with Johnson than Dumba and Donato. It's not too hard of a concept.

Cirelli isn't going anywhere, And fat chance Johnson would waive for Minnesota. Yeah Tampa easily declines.

And regardless the Lightning have less cap space after the trade than they did before it. Which makes my whole point of TBL not making the trade. Seriously go back to the beginning and I said why wouldn’t they just trade Johnson and sign Cirelli? Is Cirelli going to get a good contract yes(but he doesn’t right now)I mean FFS in this trade they trade Johnson & Cirelli and end up with less cap space than they started. I’m done with this because there’s no point in trying to explain it further if you don’t get it.

You're adorable, trying to argue points that are meaningless and then acting like you're leaving in a huff because we didn't care about your poorly framed argument. Pro tip: next time drop the thing about the RFA needing a contract being a zero dollar cap hit and stick with the point about them being better off just trying to unload Johnson. Notice I never argued that's a bad point and instead focused on the part about the RFA not being a zero dollar cap hit?
