wait, so toronto is giving up two good assets for a 4-5 defender and the privilage to buy out duncan keith? like, that's all they get back for eating all that salary? A decent shot supressor who isnt fast enough to keep up with their own team? no pick, no prospect?
this is bad.
plus, Chicago would just buy out Keith themselves

Oh so they forgot seabrook. I guess they'll just leave him
Johnsson came from surgery
Engvall in his last 19 games has 1 point

Johnson is a 20 goal scorer, but i guess players never recover from surgery. ever. so he's worthless. and Wow, a guy playing low minutes with other guys who cant score during a team having a terrible period of play? 19 games you say? holy crap get rid of him! future considerations!
Seriously, Murphy isnt worth a 3rd liner and a 2nd liner alone, and yes, that is what those players are, and you're asking the Leafs to eat 14 million dollars just for the privilage of this? Like at least throw a decent pick or half decent prospect in so we can pretend you're trying to find value

Duncan Keith is on a great contract, and there's no reason to buy him out.

(No, just looking at his age and cap hit is not enough to justify buying him out, thank you)

I doubt that the NHL goes the compliance buyout route, but obviously we go with Seabrook if that does happen.

If you boil this down to Murphy for Johnsson (that is what this trade is in its core) I don't love it as a Chicago fan.

If you'd like to trade Johnsson for C de Hann, I think something could be made on those premises.

If Toronto buys out Keith with the Comp buyout he cant resign with Chicago as per the CBA and loosing Keith and a solid RD for another winger is bad value. This is a pretty easy no from Chicago's POV.

No he isnt. and Engvall is a good asset. He's a cheap 2 way 3rd liner.

Thats amusing that you think engvall has more value then being a < 1M player but a player like Murphy isnt instantly your best RD

How is Keith on a good contract? He is old and is a good player but pretty expensive tbh. You could prob resign him for 1 year 4mil
And your getting a 20 goal scorer + a fast 3rd liner

If we buyout Keith I think he would really want to go to Chicago. On a lesser deal

Whether he wants to go back to Chicago or not, he literally cant. Its called cap circumvention and it was attempted by Tampa in 2013.

I want you to think of how funny it is that you called Connor Murphy a number 3, but cant even pretend that Engvall is a good asset. not a great asset, but just a good one. Now, I want you to think about how being better than Justin Holl is anyway impressive to anyone and that makes a defenders worth suddenly double in a trade.

LOl like @JaredOfLondon said he is a 5th d man. He is only good if he plays with good player. He just stays back and blocks people from getting in the zone. Nothing else though unless he plays with a number 1 d

Whats doubling here? Chicago is trading their #1 defense and a solid top 4 RD for a winger and a bottom 6 player. They cant even resign Keith because of cap circumvention rules.

but the leafs arnt getting a 1D, they are getting to pay that D 14 million dollars to not play for them. The only value they get is Martin Marincin the 1.5 patched addition for a top 6 winger and a good 3rd liner. and that's crap value.

who is this #1 defense that he played with? According to ice time stats he only played with Keith for a bit of the season (when half their team was on IR likely) and on the PK

Murphy will cost you Kap at a minimum. We have Kubalik, Debrincat, Kane, and Saad as our top 4 wingers all who are miles better then Engvall or Johnsson so there's not a chance we give up a top 4 defender for a bottom 6 winger.

And regarding Keith...he's still very good for only $5.5M a year so not a chance we move him for that garbage.

Murphy spent a good amount of time paired up with a cast of players and often times covering for not so good ones. Anyone who thinks Murphy is a #5 should watch a different sport.

I just dont think its a trade either team needs to make to be honest. Fans from both sides hate it. Keith is still good. Murphy is better than he gets credit for but he isn't a top D man. Can't say I've followed the two from the Toronto side too much. Engvall looked good at first but I guess he trailed off, and Johnsson was injured, but the two of them still have plenty of potential to work out. Either way if there is a comp buyout the Hawks only need to buy out seabs and we're fine, cuz I see Maatta or De Haan both as tradeable guys for a late round pick at worst, and if not then Maatta's buyout is really cheap so thats instantly 10 M plus off the books

I actually said 4-5, so it would depend on the build of the defence exactly where he was. But sure, you do you. Id think someone with such a grasp on reading comprehension would be more careful about tossing around the word embarrassing

Stop your crying...Murphy isn't a 4 or 5, he's a 3 or 4 at worse. On the Leafs, he's easily a 2 or 3. Again, stop embarrassing yourself.

you keep telling me to stop embarrassing myself while saying wildly inaccurate things about your own teams player. You should try watching the games. He's a number 4 defensive defender when he is paired with someone who can cover for his lack of skating and mobility. That's it.

I meant league-wide rather than Hawks fan opinions. He is a solid 2nd pairing defender and thats just fine
