I think that’s a decent trade but most Blue Jacket fans would argue that Bjorkstrand is better than Marner.

I agree, but although Marner is an amazing player, and I would love to have him on this team, look how much the Leafs can solidify their blue line give or take. Incredible amount of grit added to the Leafs with a solid defensive group, and the CBJ would get a 100 point player

Ok. We are gonna get a much better package than that for Marner. A rental and a second line forward and a second for an elite player.

And you still can. The contract is an overpay, but it's not as bad as it's made out to be.

Of course packages matter, but we are solidifying our blue line, and we still have cap space

That blue line is not solidified, and there are other ways besides trading a potential 100 point player.

Umm... okay. I'm not sure what that has to do with this though. You can find mine on the second page of AGM's, titled 'The Right Side'

Columbus declines.... We have no need for more wings.... also why would Columbus consider moving its team leading goal scorer? Bjorkstrand would be the perfect guy to put with Marner... now we don’t have a great running mate for him. Also I’m not sure Columbus can afford Marners cap.... but if they could I’d rather look at a Bremstrom, Savard and a 1st for Marner.

Tbh I don't think Marner's contract is as bad as people say it is. Yeah, I know, $11M is a lot for someone who hasn't hit 30 goals yet. But this guy turns only 23 in May, he's led the team in points the previous two years, great leader, good two-way guy and plays on the penalty kill. The $11M will look better as the cap goes up and as he continues to develop. As of right now I think $9-10M is a good estimate of where his value is right now, at least on the Maple Leafs. I'm not a fan of his play or contract right now, but it's not the end of the world.

I wasn’t saying that... I probably would... but here’s the thing... Bjorkstrand on the other side of Marner would be better then anyone else Columbus could put there.... that’s why I made a counter offer which might be better then Bjorkstrand.

Bremstrom, Savard and a 1st for Marner... along the same lines but an upgraded pick and Bremstrom who’s on his ELC.

how is that better? the original trade proposal was brutal for the leafs and a late 1st and a prospect no one outside of columbus has heard of doesnt change that.

A 1st is still better then a 2nd especially a 2nd in 2022... and Bremstrom is on his ELC... he’s a 3rd line wing/center playing on an ELC. That helps Toronto cap situation and allows them to sign or even target better players. Instead of adding Thornton you could sign Haula as a 3rd line center... and shocker Toronto is a better and much deeper team.

ok, cool. So you'd be willing to trade Seth Jones for Gauthier, Dermott and a 3rd? It helps the blue jackets cap situation and means they can sign bottom roster players to make themselves deeper and better!

oh wait, that would be dumb. You dont trade elite players for a smattering of pocket change so you can get "deeper". It's a crap narrative that never works.

3rd line is generous for Bemstrom, especially on the Leafs. We have a 3rd line center already, no need to overpay for another one in free agencey. This in no way makes the Leafs better or deeper.

Thanks for being leaf fans... also there’s no way either team is making this trade... Columbus doesn’t want marners 11 mil cap hit because we can’t afford it without sending Wennberg or Dubinsky(not perma-LTIR eligible) back and Toronto isn’t dumb enough to trade Marner. Lmao you guys are jokes...

Yes. The thing about depth players is that they need to actually be depth players and not play higher in the lineup than they should because you traded all your elite talent for the sake of depth. Depth comes from the top down.

if the cap stays flat, without changing anything or sending ANY salary back Columbus has 15.7 million in cap space. The proposed trade opens up another 7ish million. Columbus 100% makes this trade every day of the week because it's a hilarious steal for them. If they need to cut some more money elsehere, they do it after the fact and figure it out.
The Leafs dont do it because it would be horrific value for them.

good job on being not a leafs fan
