I'm sure atleast 2 or 3 teams are still interested in Schneider, I'd trade him rather than buy him out, you could probably get a 3rd or a 4th for him, he's not as old as alot of the other old goalies that make more than him and are just as bad, my guess is that he's having some tough times in his personal life and is on a bad team, after all, the teams only got Hischier, Zacha and Hughes to really rely on, but once the young guns come up in Schneider's contract year, they'll start winning again

Couple of things need to be addressed here:

    1. Schneider has been exceptionally poor for most of the last 3 years. Yes, the team for the most part has been terrible...but unless you follow the Devils you wouldn't realize how awful Schneider has been. Whether it was because he came back too quickly from his injury or not, he has been very substandard in goal. Some of his decisions and extremely soft goals he has given up (which happens way more than it should) makes us wonder what on earth happened to him. Nobody is going to trade a 3rd round pick to take on that contract and well below average play until he turns this around, if at all.

    2. You make it seem like Zacha is a pivotal piece like Hischier. Zacha has been a HUGE disappointment. His penalty kill has been decent, but for a #6 overall player to be a borderline 3C would be a bust. His hockey IQ at times makes us wonder "Where has THIS Zacha been?", but mostly it seems like he is very lackadaisical when he is on the ice.

    3. We potentially have 3 first round picks in the 2020 Entry Draft. We are being linked to the top goaltender with one of those picks. Not saying if we do indeed draft him that he would start from the get-go, but Schneider's time is absolutely limited with us.

Schnieder is an ahl goalie on a terrible contract. He has negative value

Unfortunately, Schneider will likely be bought out this summer (or after the season). He would've had a chance to re-establish himself had the season not been interrupted, but he's just been way too inconsistent for the Devils to retain his cap hit for another season. His contract is actually very favorable in terms of a buyout, with no bonus money being owed.

Gilles Senn and Zane MacIntyre will likely get a shot at the backup role next season. There's also a chance the Devils explore the UFA market, which happens to be full of potential #1's and/or 1B's.

The only reason Scheider wasn't bought out last summer was the fact that the Devils had extra cap space. That may not be the case next season depending on the cap and the team's approach to the UFA market. Worst case, they'll get better backup goaltending in house at 1/5 of the price.

I totally agree. His best chance to play a meaningful role next season is if the Devils buy him out and he signs elsewhere on a 1 year, low AAV contract. Maybe he rejuvenates his career as a #2 on a good defensive team.
