4 year of kyle turris is just to much. Habs could buy out alzner on is last season of is deal if they need money. Turris play have decreased for three season now, if Montreal take that contract they will get something better then a second round pick

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Turris isn’t any better than whoever would replace him (Poehling/KK/Vejdemo) and it’s better to give young players like KK ice time in the NHL. Also Alzner’s contract is way better, since if we buy him out this offseason, he’s only on the books for about $2 million in 2021-22, and $800,000 for 2 years after that. Whereas Turris is on the books at $6 million for all of the next 4 years. Even if we bought Turris our next offseason, he’d count $2 million against the cap for the next 6 years.

Turris is a versatile forward who plays well on the RW. Given the Habs clear issues with depth, having this kind of versatility would be useful. It's not a terrible move to invest 7% of the cap in a generally durable player who can play multiple positions anywhere up and down the lineup.

Depth issues? Excuse me? Especially now, with more prospects becoming NHL ready, the habs don’t have depth issues.

Assuming we sign Kovalchuk, we’ll have Lehkonen and Byron on the 4th line. And while Turris may be slightly better than Evans, that sure as hell doesn’t justify trading for that putrid contract. A move like this means the difference of being able to keep someone like Tatar in 2021, versus not having the cap space. And it gets even worse in 2022.

All you’re doing is thinking short term, and not about the future, which is obviously not a thing the habs can afford to be doing right now.

The Habs have players, they don't have depth. Once Drouin and Byron went down in November, the season spiralled away. I'm not convinced KK or Poehling are ready for prime time yet and Evans looked like an OK fourth-liner in his audition. But the Habs are a long, long way from having organizational depth. And while I am all for re-signing Tatar, he's already making $5M. I suspect the main issue with him will be term rather than getting a raise.

I’m not saying we have to / have the cap space to re-sign Tatar, I’m just saying it’s completely idiotic to trade for Turris. And of course KK is NHL ready, he was NHL ready 2 years ago, and just had a sophomore slump mixed with injuries that derailed his season. And yeah, the reason the habs fell apart was because they were hit with injuries at the same time as Laval was last year, while a bunch of players on Laval were underperforming. Charles Hudon was slumping, Belzile was out, Evans wasn’t playing great, it was the perfect storm so that the habs didn’t have anyone useful to call up. Sure the habs could use a depth forward to replace Cousins, but those players are a dime a dozen, and can easily be had for cheap in free agency. We don’t need to pay $6 million to add a depth forward.
HabsRafiki a aimé ceci.
